y'know I love avoidant/anxious attachment style hucklerobby, but there's something so juicy about them BOTH having big, intense emotions but being incredibly closed off and terrified of vulnerability...
robby lashing out so people can't stand to be around him long enough to really see his pain / dennis being much more comfortable caring for others than letting himself be cared for, isolating himself when things become too heavy to mask with a smile
dennis apologizing even when he hasn't done anything—or isn't sorry—just to shut down emotionally raw conversations / robby finding it nearly impossible to admit he's sorry, even when he's sick with guilt, because he doesn't want to face why he acts the way he does
both of them being so insecure, overwhelmed and obsessed with chasing distractions that they don't even notice that the other can see right through them
they both feel useless bc they can't get the other to open up; broken bc they can't do it themself. on and on until someone's bottle bursts and they're holding each other through a breakdown. then they still don't talk abt it. rinse and repeat until the angst meter is full <3

I'm currently reading this amazing hanahaki fic, Makes You Laugh, Makes You Cry by nabakovian. I've only read the first chapter but it's fucking fantastic so far! dennis in particular makes some bad choices to avoid sharing things with robby that might affect their "relationship"
i retract and repent in dust and ashes by blue65 is hucklerabbot but is stellar if you like avoidant/self-destructive whitaker (hiding/mismanaging diabetes)
