I'm so glad another person found LtP's amazing series!! My favorite part from 'Beat' is when Ace and Shun are arguing about bees. I can just imagine Shun's offended face as he yells at Ace to take back what he said about bees needing to be wiped out lol
In all honesty? Any time Shun introduces something to the vestals (indirectly or not) that gets them to react strongly with confusion, or general anger, is my favourite. Alien Eyes is full of them (especially connected with Siege, because Shun sleeping on Volt without much care on account of sleep deprivation is always funny), but Beat is also great for them.
Honestly, with Beat, it’s much better if you read Dark-Addled first, because it contextualises Ace’s asks about Shun’s heart condition (and is also really good on account of someone finally getting Shun to use his combat training asdfghjkl--- The show never used his training until it suited the scene GI, bless it, was good over that, rather than what would make sense for Shun to do at the time... Oh well.)
Besides that! Bees die after one sting! The one in Shun’s shirt would’ve been eight times dead, or that was a wasp. Also, you could just... Create a space that bees are specifically excluded from in Marucho’s garden (section off an area with glass screens so the vestals don’t die.)
I agree with Shun whole heartedly over bumblebees, or as my family affectionately calls them, flying thumbs. They’re super cute and fluffy!! They do not deserve to die!!
As a side note, I did gain the dual coronary system headcanon from LtP, as well as the dreamless part of vestals don’t sleep. I headcanon that they can, but their sleep schedule is very predictable (asleep for a set time, regardless of when they fall asleep, but they don’t dream.) As for the plant comparison in Alien Eyes... It kind of reminds me of sea sheep nudibranchs; they have chloroplasts in their backs, which helps provide energy, but they are still fauna (and very small!!)
I suppose it’s payback from Ace for making him worry so much about humans; they have such messed up biology to him, so he worries.
