Despite its worse side of its reputation, it is not a trickster, but in fact very wise and adaptable. In the same way, you are a very intelligent and creative individual, though you may be misunderstood by your peers.

“Let’s see. Being sick that one time, playing the Persona game, not telling nice old men to go home when I catch them hiding behind vending machines, finding cursed objects and not even thinking before breaking the seals on them, that pizza bagel that was sitting out for an unknown amount of time before I ate it...” The list just goes on and on. Is there an end? Experts say “probably not.”

“Surely it’s not a surprise by now that I regret not ensuring that Yamaoka actually went home.” He’s certainly spoken about it more than once.

What's your most embarrassing memory?

“...My entire life? If I had to pick one moment, uhh...” Wow, it’s hard to pick one. “...The time I fell down the same pitfall three times? The time I slipped and fell down some stairs in the Ice Castle, knocked everyone else down, and then couldn’t get up out of the pile of dudes for at least five minutes? I dunno.”

“I will NOT answer--!”

“He doesn’t want to talk about the time I caught him in a frog outfit singing the Satomi Tadashi song alone in his room. I recorded it, though.”

the boy chooses who will live and who will die

This gives Kei pause. The choice should be obvious--not only is Toudou the more useful of the two, he is also just flat-out the one he likes more--and yet he hesitates. Perhaps it’s the memory of Inaba’s mother, the way she was so overbearing, the embarrassing nickname--the thought of making the decision to separate them in such a way is... sickening.

And yet--has Toudou known such things? Kei will admit he knows few details of the man’s past, but until very recently Toudou has always had the appearance of going through the motions rather than feeling any particular enjoyment in life. Would it not be just as cruel to separate someone so unfortunate from the potential for a brighter future?

Yamaoka once said that Kei would need to make difficult choices, where no answer would truly be “right”--that he must think carefully and choose as best he can. That he should not regret those decisions, even if they go awry. Though this is not even remotely what Yamaoka had in mind, it certainly applies.

Kei does not take this choice lightly. While he had once been so willing to throw away the lives of others, he finds himself hesitating now. Who needs life more, one who has a family that would be heartbroken, or one who has only just found a substitute for such? And who is he to decide this...? But indecision will be punished. He keeps a neutral expression. “I apologize, Inaba... Toudou lives.”

Naoya takes a deep breath. That’s a choice that hurts. Someone he’s become particularly fond of, who will eventually be a major influence to the world--or someone who, while less influential, finally found her will to live, after years of suffering...? He knows who he wants to choose, who people that don’t know them personally would choose... and who he should choose.
