I wonder if that’s because:

1) He just decided he fancied having a look to see what was up and coming along

2) He baby-birded onto Marissa since she lived on Trypticon too, where he was growing up

3) Soundwave just adopted him too. Reverse baby-bird-ing. The urge to dad was too strong.

4) His moms told him he needs some more exercise

5) Some sort of combination of two or more of the above
