I often wondered why God chose a Leap Year in which to take you. Today, I light a candle for you to burn all day. Today, I sit & reflect on how you would look as a man — tall, dark & handsome. Would you be quiet & reserve or witty & sarcastic. Today, I realize I’m still healing & grief really never goes away. Julien got “in trouble” this morning for being mean to his brother. We have been making the boys lay down until they calm down and then “start over.” It is much better than fussing (even though that still happens- we are not perfect). Today I decided to practice my hypnotherapy on Julien. He is in therapy for unprocessed grief and trauma. However the therapist has not gotten to these things yet...so I decided to try myself. I did a short relaxation technique and then led into a script about grief. He did great. His eyes were open and he wiggled a bit, but he laid there and listened. In the hypnosis we created his very own special place. After the hypnosis he told me about it and we talked about how it is ok to talk about how he feels about Elijah’s death. He says he doesn’t know how to explain it. But the hypnosis did make him feel better and calmer. We talked about how he can now go to his special place any time he gets angry and allow himself to feel safe and calm. I told him the next few days we will continue to do the hypnotherapy and see if it helps open up these feelings he has about Elijah. Childhood trauma is best treated as a child. The symptoms are very similar to ADHD and can present in anger and anxiety—even in the sweetest children.
