Alexandria still had no doctor, so that’s where Siddiq’s day had been spent. His feet were aching by the time he got back to Oceanside. He wanted to forget the rest of the world and lay in bed, sleep for the next month or two. There are dark circles under his eyes, but he doesn’t look half as exhausted as he feels. That’s one of his major feelings, besides guilty. He had to leave his student behind at their camp, and Enid was forced to do an amputation by the book. Without him there. She was more than capable, yes, but part of him felt like he abandoned her. And he did abandon her, to a degree, but it wasn’t like he had a choice.
The moment he returned to his home in Oceanside and found Sukesh, he grabbed the other man’s arm, without a word. Took him to their room. Closed the door behind them, and sat on the bed. “I’m overwhelmed,” He says, covering his face with his hands. He knew Sukesh was already aware that Siddiq was overwhelmed. His childhood friend turned lover knew him too well. Things just kept getting crazier and crazier, lately. “I don’t know what I’m doing. I really don’t.” He didn’t know if he was fit to be a doctor. Not in this world. He felt he got too emotionally invested. Every single negative thought he had lately was rising to the surface.
