Battle of Bunker Hill

The Battle of Bunker Hill (17 June 1775) was a major engagement in the initial phase of the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783), fought primarily on Breed's Hill in Charlestown, Massachusetts. The colonial troops successfully defended Breed's Hill against two British attacks, but ultimately retreated after a third assault. The battle was a British victory but cost them heavy casualties.

The John Glover House- Marblehead, Massachusetts . . John Glover (Born 1732) was an American fisherman, rum trader and General in the Continental Army. His schooner “Hannah” was among the first ships commissioned by George Washington for use and thus Glover/Marblehead have been called the Birthplace of the US Navy. . The Marblehead militia led by Glover aided in the #SiegeofBoston, and Glover’s Regiment was key in saving Washington and the Continental Army after their defeat at the Battle of Brooklyn/Long Island. The American Army was trapped in their trenches on Brooklyn Heights until #JohnGlover and his “amphibious regiment” ferried the troops across the East River to safety in Manhattan. . Perhaps most famously Glover’s Regiment coordinated Washington’s crossing of the Delaware in a surprise attack on Hessian Mercenaries for The Battle of Trenton on the morning of December 26, 1776. . You’ll find a statue of John Glover by sculptor #MartinMilmore on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall in Boston’s Back Bay. An animated timeline and map details the events from #PaulReveresRide on the night of the 18th, the Battles of Lexington & Concord, and the beginning of the #SiegeofBoston as British troops are forced to retreat back to the safety of Boston by the end of day on the 19th. . Highlights include a lamp said to be one of the two hung in the #OldNorthChurch on the night of the 18th, an original step that lead up to the belfry, and several musket balls gathered by Henry David #Thoreau near the Old North Bridge. .
