sightlessruth:
She could sense an undercurrent pushing against his words before he said anything. They were rude, the extra voices, trying to interrupt when she was trying to say hello. She took a step toward him to get a better look. She was aware of the subjective nature of the blind girl having a look and the obvious joke. She was also sure that he wasn’t about to make it, though the intrusive noise might feel differently.
“Sh.”
Ruth raised her index finger to a point in front of his forehead, not touching him but extending a sliver of clear thought to shoo the extra voices away from his answer.
“Didn’t mean to intrude there. Just wanted to say hello without everyone gettin’ so worked up. I’m Ruth, it’s nice to meet you,” she said, lowering her hand again.
David watched her carefully. He went still, breath hitching. She was suddenly so close and his head was suddenly so...quiet? Just for a moment he was him. He was his own. “Holy shit...thank you...” He couldn’t help but to stare at her, like a complex equation he could solve through his eyes alone. “Ruth...” He laughed out the name happily, and grinned. In the next moment his smile faltered and his blush returned. He took a few steps back from her. Close. Too close. “Heh...I’m sorry...I’m uh...probably keeping you from class or whatever...”
