Good morning 👋. To finish up the work week, here is a pair of Laughing Gulls (Leucophaeus atricilla) at Harry Harris Park in Tavernier Key. I am reviving this one from a few years ago and definitely prior to hurricane Irma 😭. I among my collection, this #photo is one of my favorites. There is a feeling that I cannot describe when I look at this photo 😀. It is a mixture of 'mellowness' and ?? Either way, I hope you enjoy this photo as much as I do. Good morning 👋. Almost feels like this immature Brown #Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) is almost looking at me 😃. Definitely not camera shy 😅. There are some advantages and disadvantages of taking pictures of birds in mid-flight from various distances. For example, over long distances, the lens movements can be made gradual while following the bird (panning) and it leads to less "jerkiness" and a bigger possibility of obtaining a somewhat sharp image. On the other hand, in order to get a closer view, you may have to implement a telephoto lens like I did here. Since you are zooming into the subject that also translates into augmenting the possibility of camera shake 😨. To counteract this, either mount the camera on a tripod or hope that you have a steady hand 😜. So what do you think about this inquisive youngster? Good morning ✌. Another oldie and hopefully goodie 😝. Taking photos of birds in mid-flight is one of those mix-bagges challenging aspects of #bird #photography 😬. If you are lucky you may be able to freeze the subject with a fast shutter and a wide aperture (decrease f-stop value) - or if that is the effect you want to get. If you want hints of motion to show in your exposure, then you could slow down the speed a bit and minimize the aperture (increae f-stop value) and pan the camera as the bird flies by 😵. In the case of this Laughing Gull (Leucophaeus atricilla), I froze the image with a very fast shutter and whole subject come in great focus. Of course I still had to adjust the other camera parameters in order to get a proper exposure 😌. So what do you think about this photo? Good morning 👋. This is another oldie but hopefully goodie 😉. There are just a handfull of things other than a raptor's stare that trigger so many of emotions 😍😓😱😢. While taking this photo of a #HarpyEagle (Harpia harpyja) a few years back at #zoomiami , I remember gasping more than once. While it left me speechles, I was able to snap out of this surreal moment and press the shutter button 😰. To edit this photo, I opted to desaturate all color using #Gimp in order to give it a more dramatic look. What do you think about this photo? Good morning 👋. Many birdwatchers and even some photographers tend to dismiss "common" birds like this tiny Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher (Polioptila caerulea). I generally try not to miss photography opportunites, so I still try to take photos regardless. Also, trying to "capture" one of these birds on digital is quite difficult as they tend to move all the time and will not stand still for long 😱. So after all, the challenge is great and a decent photo like this one, gives opportunity for celebration 🙌. Of course, I can't say much about composition 😥. What do you think? Good morning ✌. Perhaps one of the worst pictures I have ever taken, "qualitywise" speaking 😌. The photo conditions were poor and chasing this little Summer Tanager (Pirana rubra) as it hopped from branch to branch with my #NikonD7200 and #Sigma500mm combo was very intense (this lense is about 4 Lbs😱). Hense the slight camera shake 😢. Still I could not let opportunity go😜. Remember was take the photo👍. What are your thoughts about this beatiful bird? Comments are welcomed below 🙏. Good morning 👋. Something simple today 😜. Just a female Boat-Tailed Grackle (Quisvalus major) perched on a reed at #LakeApopka while wearing a cape 😂. This photo was taken during low light level conditions as daylight was fading away 😮. Also the subject was a few meters away, so that doubled down on the lack of natural light 😰. AND the reeds were swaying due to a light breeze, so a slow shutter was out of the question. But I persevered 🙌. A bit of tweeking with the camera's ISO and f-stop settings made this shot fairly acceptable. Don't you think so? FYI my telephoto lens will not go lower (wider) than 6.3 when partially extended (That happens when your telephoto is less that $1000 😡) #NikonD7200 #Sigma500mm , f/6.3, 1/320s, ISO 800.
