🎶🎙📼 #ArtIsAWeapon Fascinating #Blackmusichistory, reposted from @easymobee - LOST AND FOUND: #UnclaimedProperty The Story Of How 7,000 Unclaimed #SigmaSoundStudios #MasterTapes Were "Donated" To A College University😳 Back in 2005, a storage facility placed a call to #Philadelphia's #DrexelUniversity and asked if they would be interested in a "donation" to the college. The caller said that he had 7,000 master tapes in his possession, all labeled "Sigma Sound Studios." The studio, founded in 1968 by legendary audio engineer #JoeTarsia, led an intense search for all of the tapes' original owners before closing it's doors in 2003. All of the unclaimed tapes were then placed in a local storage facility in Philly. The tapes ended up as a "donation" to Drexel University's Music Industry Audio Archive and now serve as an educational tool for it's college students' music programs. In the bulk of the massive unclaimed tape load were multitrack sessions, outtake reels and final mixes by the likes of #SlyStone #DavidBowie #GradyTate #MillieJackson #StevieWonder #TeddyPendergrass and countless others. This crazy story brings another similar case to mind. In the year 2004, I can remember when #NYC's #UniqueRecordingStudios was closing it's doors and also led the same kind of search for the owners of tapes that were left at their studio. I got the call and immediately rushed down to their Times Square address and took ALL of my tapes out All the other unclaimed tapes went into a big green dumpster. Unclaimed property turned into garbage. Just like that. Smh. One man's junk is another man's treasure. Lost And Found.
