Before I play Summer Found Me, I thought I'll put my thoughts together about this game and all first xP!
This game is about a girl named Marty(renamable) who saw a guy giving her flowers early in the morning in class, and she tried to get closer to him. She's also a shoujo fanatic, so she came up with crazy plans and asked her friend, Warren to help her xD
I just looove the plans she came up with, and I love Warren. Warren always came up with funny comments, and the one that I remembered is "My parents are complaining about my maniac laughter in my room" LOLOL~ I like Matt too, hehe~ My favourite ending is "Not M" (I think~ not sure) where [SPOILERS!] Matt's brother decided to help her, heheh~
And now I'm going to play what I'm currently playing ^_________^
Welcome back to the VNs Now Tumblr! I was just going to leave it behind but with the excitement overtaking the community that is EVN BINGO, I figured I'd hop back on to tangle with Shadow mano-e-mano. So, let's see what do I have....Signed X....Oh sweet, merciful baby Jesus what have I signed up for?
So the one in the middle is our nameable female protagonist TWO-FER! And we’re in AMERICA…I THINK! Just two more and I’ll have the first bingo…though I should probably say something about the character…yeah. Marty (Default Name) is your straightforward shoujo/otome heroine trope who loves manga, romance and inexplicably has a bevy of beaus after her heart despite no discernible skills or looks. Well the set up’s in my favor. Let’s see if I can ring a bingo out of this one.
Along with Marty we have, well, the 'love interests'. Let's do this quickly before I break something.
…So that’s Warren. He has a sweet tooth and will also be playing the Kyon to Marty’s Haruhi…and I hate myself for knowing that reference. And as the 'male best friend' he's pretty much stuck in the shadow love interest.
And this is Mr. Perfect himself: Matt. You know what Matt? I’m not going to punch you in the face just yet. Despite the fact that you’re the atypical male love interests that is loved because he’s a fill-in fantasy instead of….okay you know what? Matt you may be the perfect love interest, but I AM A MAN –PUNCH!–
So far, so good. As long as the music stays basic and they're no-
choices...crap. This just got harder. Okay before we go forward, let me go over the plot quickly. It's nothing new as after misunderstanding caused by Matt leaving flowers on her desk and Marty having the brain-power of a butterfly, she decides the only way to know for sure is to create the perfect 'romantic moment' where Matt declares his love just like in manga!
Okay wild prediction here but because this is a paint-by-numbers otome tale, I’m pretty sure everyone already knows the flowers aren’t actually meant for her but by showing enough interest you can win his heart or realize the best friend's true feelings and I just want to shoot bourbon until I forget everything about otome now.
Alright from there Signed X follows Marty as she, well, fails hard. Whether it's by trying to get Matt's attention by having balls thrown in her face-
Or getting another friend to pretend to be a lesbian in a convoluted plot to get Matt to give her a rose (Yes Shadow this happens...try to avoid committing seppuku in outrage)
The poor kid just can't seem to win...and neither can I as it officially stopped giving me squares to fill. While GlassHeart did pretty much everything on her own, unless Warren is actually 1/4 Thai or suddenly calls Marty an idiot without it being a joke, I've hit a wall. As for the EVN itself, there are four different endings and in Act 5 the comedy stops so that each ending can have an adequate 'squee' moment.
Summary: So if you remember my apparently infamous reviews of other otome EVNs, you will be surprised to know that I more or less liked this entry. This is what I feel something like Heartful Chance should’ve been with Marty sincere but her hijinks go from zero to one-hundred in five seconds and doesn’t take a second to slow down through most of the EVN. It doesn’t attempt to change the standard in anyway but at the same time watching her try to make her fantasy work in the real world is actually fairly entertaining right up to the conclusion when it begins to try and take itself seriously. HOW it’s done, basically making the heroine cry, pretty much sucked the fun out of it and left us with a very straightforward ending depending on your choices…save for one that was actually pretty amusing and I won’t spoil. So, overall, it's a candy-colored, hyperactive ride that knows and loves what it is. Not bad if it's your thing.
Final Card:
Unfortunately while I was close on a few fronts, nothing connected this time. And all I needed was a tsundere character too! Damnation! Well it’s just the opening round. Surely something here will be golden for me!
