Since our 2.5 year old son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes 5 days ago, family and friends we have talked to have a lot of questions. Why did he get it if he was a child eating healthy food? How did they found out? what are the symptoms? Is he going to have to use Insulin his whole life? 1. Type 1 DM could happen by a genetic mutation or autoimmune process that destroys the Beta cells of the pancreas, which are the ones in charge of producing insulin. 2. He was diagnosed after a blood sugar level in the ER showed a Blood gluvose of 596. We took him to the ER that morning to confirm what I already knew based on his symptoms. 3. The symptoms he had were peeing a lot, drinking water and milk desperately and o irritability The last day I noticed dry lips as well. 4. Since his pancreas barely produces insulin, he needs it to be inyected for the rest of his life before each meal (there are other ways of delivering the insulin through pumps, but this will happen as he gets older). If you are noticing this signs or symptoms in your child, please dont hesitate of going to the doctor. #diabetesmom #signsofdiabetes #diabetesawarness #insulindependent #teachingwhatweknow #learningthroughlife #insulinpumps #nutritionschoool #healthydiabetic https://www.instagram.com/p/BrEi03AAd0A/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1rxdjh2huq2a5
