To say do not disturb my vigil, I know, was more of an excuse than a proper explanation. To neglect the insecurities you feel, I know, was me being more of a Houdini than a lover's validation. But did you ever ponder what stress is knocking upon my door, Throughout my final quarter of compulsory service, Quite frankly, babe, All I needed was a little bit more time, Time you couldn't afford to give, A little more times. Yes, we did hustle hard for the best in us, To take the wheel and drive through the hardest times. But the hard times seemed to have bent us out of shape, Leaving me only a mouthful of broken lines. But would you ever turn around and retrace the steps we took, Every smile on the beautiful journey we made. Because, I swear, we are beautiful if you could only take a second look, Before the goodbyes, you so often bade. Maybe a little sliver of chance is all I ask for, A chance to let you know I will always fight, With you, For us. Perhaps then you'd see me through a little further, Just enough to hold me a little tighter, Because my arms will never let go. As I slowly whisper I need you so.
Eri R, A Year Ago.
There are days when waking up alone causes me a pinch of melancholy. I, now, know what's it like to not wake up to you, or your quirky cute morning texts, saying sweet dumb things and sometimes dreaming the greatest kind of dreams; Us and our future. Those things may now be faint and distant stories, all wrapped up and hidden in brown parcels of our memories. I know their sweetness and melodic tunes, I can hear them, still, I know they are there. Only now their songs are constantly mocking me. and my failure. You recognise me, don't you? This face, look at it, you know this face, don't you? Cradle it in your hands, please, and tell me we are the same. We are Us, still afraid of the same old fears. Tell me you've been doing it too, throwing yourself into strange company, so you don't have to acknowledge it. The cold embrace of loneliness gripping our tiny little hearts, a loneliness only our company can cure. You feel it too, don't you? Please, tell me, this must be true, that your senses long for us too. Y'see, I don't have the luxury of admiration from adoring fans, nor could I afford my soul, fancy escapes to places I've never been. And so my longings are earnest and still pure. Untouched but always smothered in smoke. Unseen but always locked upon the horizon in my gaze. I'm forever homesick but I'm sailing in the wrong direction. Won't you be the star as you once were and brilliantly light my way home. For I am tired and I need to rest my bones by the fire.
Further Yet Closer, Eri R.
The Twist.
Georgie Yee asked, “Can I ask you something?” Hannah Hsu, slightly intrigued, replied, “Yeah, what?” Georgie Yee stumbled and continued to say, “Uhm, do you like…? Do you like to munch?” In between laughing out to the rather odd question, Hannah Hsu answered, “That’s a funny question! But yeah, I do. Especially when I’m catching up on episodes of anime which I also happen to like.” After calming down, she proceeded to say, “But besides that, I also like seeing that you’ve put on some weight. Like you’re finally content with life. Happy. I like that look on you. Keep it on, it suits you well.” Trying to change the course of the conversation because he is getting uncomfortable about happiness, Georgie Yee said, “Perhaps I am, or it could just be because I like munching so much these days. So I like roti john cheese. What do you like?” Hannah Hsu just shook her head. Not ready to resign to the fact that he’ll never see what’s in front of him, she seized her thoughts and said it anyway, “I like you, dammit. Can’t you see that?” Georgie Yee being really uncomfortable, looked at his watch, or at least pretended to and quickly said, “Hey, it’s nine forty-five, I should go. It’s getting late.” And he left. She didn’t stop him. Even though both of them know that was some sorry-ass excuse, on his part, and Hannah Hsu is just not ever going to believe it. She is only left thinking, “It’s getting late? Really? That’s your exit? It’s only nine forty-five. For god’s sake, Georgie. By your usual standards, you know the night is still young. Stay with me a bit longer, won’t you?” She really wanted to yell out her thoughts to him then but she never did and it’s probably going to eat her heart out.
