what is the origin of your blog name?

me being contrary about a lyric in the song “Giving Up” by Ingrid Michaelson. may have been incredibly suicidal at the time I started creating profiles on the internet, but I was not going to give up on greener grasses, and now I like having that reminder.

hummus with meat. I am obsessed with hummus with meat. it is so good

what’s your current comfort book/movie/TV show?

book: The Woods All Black by Lee Mandelo. this is because I was despairing over how much mediocre to bad writing is in the world and then I remembered this powerhouse of a book. I have been extremely comforted rereading it and being like ok. the craft survives

movie: Legally Blonde. it’s such a good movie, it embodies so many things that are important to me

TV show: this one is a toss up and I haven’t watched TV seriously in uh. almost a year. which is wild. but probably Torchwood….? for the nostalgia factor

what’s the last thing you hyperfixated on?

thg. free me from my prison. it should be dying down by now (my hyperfixations last for about 2-3 years) and when I’m occupied with school it fades but when I’m not it smashes into me and at this point I’m like bro go away. leave me in peace

what’s an oddly specific thing that brings you joy?

the situation I find myself in rn! which is in bed and my cat is resting her head on my chest and purring loudly

what’s something you loved as a kid that you secretly love now?

ok so. when I was a kid and basically living with my grandma we a) didn’t have much money and b) where I grew up, food is very expensive aside from the most basic ingredients. this was way worse back then. I was also semi picky so on the days when we were low on vegetables or whatever and she would relent, she would make me a very basic dish that consisted of butter noodles with Lawry’s season salt.

that shit is fire. it is so good. yes it is the meal of a small child but it is also the best drunken late night snack of all time. I can’t get Lawry’s season salt here in a portion smaller than a pound and I genuinely might have the gf try and bring it back from the US (my sister tried to and it was confiscated) because I am going to need access to that meal to maintain my sanity when I’m neck deep in thesis writing

Were you named after anyone?

Nope. My dead name was just somethin' my mom saw on a computer screen AFTER I had been born and decided it looked cool and she "had to name me something". My current name -- *and this is the first time I'm, legit, admitting this out loud online, btw. Yer gettin' privileged information here, darlin'. Lol! -- is Dax (aka Dakota). The truth behind that one, is that it's one I chose for myself after my best-friend passed away. He lived in the house next to me, but his address was the street behind the one I live on, aka Dakota. Dax for short. He was like my brother and he moved away when I was 13 years old from health issues that cost insane amounts from hospital bills. His parents and him moved somewhere cheaper in order to be able to get him help, but he passed away from severe stomach pneumonia. I've gone by Dax ever since. Three guesses as to which OC muse of mine was also named after him. *Hint: he has Boyd's face. ;)

Do you have kids?

Yup! One boy, one girl. 'Cept they're basically adults now.

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Nahhh. Neverrr! What makes you say that!? Pfffft! I don't even know what sarcasm is.

What's the first thing you notice about people?

If we click. Emotional/mental connections are everything. The rest is superficial.

What's your eye color?

Hazel-ish. Kinda like... green with gold flecks and a little gray so... depends on my clothes. Sometimes they look blue, cuz they kinda reflect my outfit. It's weird.

Scary movies or happy endings?

Yes. Lol!

Any special talents?

Uhh. Yeah. A few.

What are your hobbies?

Currently? Hiking and swimming in the ocean. Once I'm well again, I'mma headin' back to Neskowin, with a quickness.

Have any pets?

Yup! Two guinea pigs and two cats. My mom has a dog and hers is dog aggressive, so we can't get another one until she passes. But my daughter and I are gonna get one after we move to the beach. We have our hearts set on a lab or golden retriever-lab mix.

What sports do you play / have you played?

Track in middle school. Lifted weights and did 4-H with my horse and barrel racing back in high school. Nowadays, I just hike and go swimming.

How tall are you?

I don't like answering this one. It's somethin' I have a personal issue with so... I don't like talkin' about it.

Favorite subject in school?

Pottery. Lol! That and math, cuz I was surprisingly good at it. I represented Oregon in a nation wide competition at Western Oregon State College in my sophomore year.

Dream job?

Honestly, I'd love to be a DJ. Like... mix my own music and turn out some sick EDM stuff. I've been a karaoke DJ and been in a band. I've played around with turn tables and done some sick mixes at a couple raves with my friend, DJ Komotose. It was a long time ago, but I keep catching moments where I'll just hear a sound or a beat and instantly think of how I could mix in other beats and drop a bass, then bring in a line or two of dialogue and it just sorta... spawns this need to create? But I don't have the money for the equipment so... meh. I'd need a few grand to get a decent mixer and computer set up in order to make demos. Probably won't happen anytime soon, cuz my kids, animals, and moving costs (as well as living costs) are all top priorities. We're just barely getting by, as is. But!... never say never, am I right? ;)
