Wait, I just started thinking… if Thorkell is the only one who knew that Thors was still alive, and he was the only one who saw Thors, Helga, and Ylva that night… what did everyone else think happened to Helga?

From their point of view her and her daughter might’ve just disappeared one night, with no trace.

And Sigvaldi was still alive, in fact, he was still alive during the war in England, so over twenty years after Helga had left. I know Ylva was a daughter and not a son, so she wouldn’t be viewed very importantly, but did nobody try to find her? Or had she made up an excuse that made it make more sense why she left and was never heard of again?
