I know people hate on Ulf but I felt bad for him this episode. His backstory is tragic and fucked up. And his eventual betrayal makes more sense now. It won't be just about him wanting a castle or feeling the rewards he's been given aren't up to par. He's been abused and exploited by people with power over him his whole life. Him getting a dragon meant he was finally going to be free of all that. If he thinks Rhaenyra's regime is just going to mean more exploitation or mistreatment of him, he'll turn against her.
