She was woken up by the sound of yelling. Again. Not wasting a moment, Sorano sprung out of her blankets. Her mind still hazy with sleep, she briskly padded her way through the hallway. Trying to locate the source of her fathers yelling. In all of her nine years, she'd never understood how her parents could be such cruel people.
Finally, she'd managed to find her family in Yukino's room. Angry screams echoed through the room, and she stepped forward. Appalled, but not surprised, to find her father and mother towering over a crying Yukino. Rushing forward, Sorano stood in front of her younger sister.
Facing the adults with a practiced glare, she stood firm. Silence. Her mother fumed inwardly, and her father seemed half-tempted to continue the screaming. They'd learned though, that Sorano wouldn't stop, and it was too early in the morning to put that much effort into a punishment. They sneered nasitly, before walking away muttering about ungrateful and disobedient children, and the violet eyed girl had to fight back the urge to cry herself.
When they'd left the room, she turned to her sister quickly. The younger girl was sitting on the floor, looking back at her with tears in her wide eyes. Reacting smoothly, she snatched a toy from the floor and held it out to the other girl.
Wanting nothing more than her sister to be happy, Sorano gave her biggest smile. "Come on, Yuki. Let’s play!" No matter what, she promised herself silently, she'd always be there to protect Yukino.
