A playwright based on the true story of Henrietta Swan Leavitt who was born hearing in Cambridge Massachusetts. She volunteered to do studies at the Harvard Observatory then was employed for 30 cents an hour. She later became deaf from an illness.
There was information on line about this history made into a movie in 1971 or 1977. I'm still looking for it.
If it was never made into a movie or a biography book, it would be awesome to see these productions someday.
Hopefully directors and producers will hire a late deafened or hard of hearing actress for this movie.

my favourite play ever is called Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson. i got to play the lead, Henrietta Leavitt, during a staged reading. she was a real astronomer who was hard-of-hearing and made an incredible important astronomical breakthrough in the early 20th century that lead to how we view the universe today. she died in her early 50s of cancer, and a few years after she died, she was up for a noble prize, but since she was dead, they couldn’t give it to her. she should be an important name that more people know, but they don’t. gunderson does incredible justice for her in the show and it is WELL WORTH a read/watch if you ever get a chance!
i’m also a slut for shakespeare, and i’m a huge fanatic about the american women’s suffrage movement!
