Music is what I am passionate about. I first played guitar when I was 14, so, as up to now, it has been about 9 years. However, I can say that I am still just a newbie in the world of music as I just took my first step into reality when I released my first song about a week ago. Any musician knows that there is a big gap between covering songs and actually making them.
To be able to play a song, one just have know how to play chords and read basic music. However, to be able to make a song, one needs a lot more complex skill sets. Of course, one can start creating a song with zero knowledge about music by just humming out the melodies, but, those ideas cannot be well structured/ organised without a touch of knowledge from music theory. What is more vital than theory when creating a song is the imagination. This kind of artistic imagination is what divide artists from ordinary people. Good artists have to be able to look, interpret, and convert everything around them into a piece of art whether it comes in the form of a painting, a poet, or music.
Writing a song can be a very complicated and overwhelming thing to do. The fact is : Everyone can sing any song, but not every song is made for everyone. If you put a very serious song into the hand of an innocent person, they will not be able to perform it well. The same thing applied for the audience of that particular song as well. Even if you can sing the most beautiful song ever written, if the audiences do not understand what are you trying to communicate, it can be troublesome as well. So, before you even think of picking up a pen to write your first song, it is essential for you to evaluate yourself on what kind of person you are, what kind of band you are, and most importantly, who are your audiences.
After I analysed who I am and who I aimed to be, I began to write my first song at the time when I was spending a trimester in UK. As soon as I hit Thailand, I called all my bandmates and we began to compose the song and, later on, recorded in a studio. Now, it is released to the music streaming platforms ( Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, etc.) and Youtube.
