If you don't like opinions I don't suggest reading my rantish opinions.
I went through the Silent Hill tags yesterday and I kept coming across people that were angry with the new movie. I kept reading things like 'the plot sucked' and 'the acting was horrible', 'whoever made this should be shot' and even along the lines of 'the romance was like re-watching twilight', etc and so forth.
I can't say I don't agree with some of the convincing arguments, but the flat out refusal of the movie without any reason other than 'because.', any childish reasons, or just not giving any at all. (If you have a good reason then I'll accept you're opinion, but if not I'm not saying I'll get mad or anything like that, don't take it the wrong way.)
IN MY OPINION:
I respect the fact that OBVIOUSLY this isn't going to be a perfect move and I'm grateful that we even got movies in the first place. The creators are having to take a 20+ hour game and condense it into a 3 hour movie. They can't include everything and not everything they do is going to work perfectly. They are doing the best that they can with what they are given. They could have gone the Resident Evil route and changed most of everything that's going on. But they didn't, they stuck with as close to the Silent Hill idea as they could while being original, AND GIVING US WHAT WE WANTED.
I find it a little disrespectful (and asshole-ish) to say that whoever made the movie must die. I mean come on, really? Wishing death on someone who tried to give us what we wanted is a bit childish. But that's just how I see it
In all honesty the plot for this movie was a billion times better than the first one. This plot actually seemed to follow the basis of the third Silent Hill game (and to me it seems that by bashing the movie you, in turn, bash the game, which was a pretty great game). This plot actually flowed and felt like a story rather than the jumble that was the first movie. It pretty much gave us everything we needed to know for the ending, like the games usually will, and lead to a rather complete, albeit rushed, ending.
The fact that someone sees what little romance is in this movie as 're-watching Twilight' completely baffles me. HOW? They weren't focused on the romance, neither did they push it on us. It was mostly a plot device, I mean, what movie doesn't use romance as a plot device? I didn't even get that much of a vibe of romance at all, I just saw the guy awkwardly trying to hit on her and help her because he liked her. Isn't that a normal reaction?
I'm a huge Silent Hill fan (and no, I'm not saying I'm the only one or anything like that) so anything involved with it makes me happy. I honestly liked Homecoming and Downpour, they weren't the greatest but they had good parts and great ideas, same with Origins. So all the hints and references drove me to the verge of going crazy with happiness. I loved that most of the names and faces you see are involved with the games. And I loved that they were pushing the idea that every experience with Silent Hill is different with everyone. That is the whole idea of the games and movie. Not everyone is the same so not every experience is the same. I also loved how the mentionings of the other games made it seem that the cycle of people going through the town is almost constant.
UNRELATED: Fake Vergil is more of a disapppointment than Fake Dante and Reboot put together. He sounds like a whiney, fedora-wearing faget, I'm sorry, but his voice just pisses me off. All hint of the "all power-hungry and threatening Vergil" is NOT apparent in his Alternate version. He looks and sounds too fucking happy! And if he turns out to be the main antagonist, I'm gonna split even more.
er herm. PH wip, again. I have too any of these and not enough time.
