hello! so this might be a weird question and i'm not really sure how to word it but how do you do your patterns/recolours on your historical (1910s specifically) gowns? i've noticed you use the same mesh for those gowns in particular and i wanted to ask how you make that pattern on the gowns that make them differ, or if you know any tutorials? i've been struggling on figuring out how to create the patterns/seems/accessories on my own cc and your designs are just gorgeous!
hi! well spotted, i do indeed use the same mesh for most of my 1910s clothes. if you’re interested, it’s the long white dress that came with the islamic update.
i’m not sure what you mean by ‘that pattern’ but i do have a relatively straightforward method of making seams! i make all my textures in GIMP so unfortunately i don’t know how this works with any other software.
step 1: i use the rectangle tool to highlight the section where i want the seam to be. the side of the rectangle that’s down the front of the dress is where i want the seam to be.
step 2: i select the dodge/burn tool, make the brush fairly small and set it to ‘burn’ (makes things darker, idk why it is called this). i use the brush to draw a line right down where the edge of the selected area is. because this is the edge of the area selected, this will leave a nice crisp seam line.
step 3: i invert the selected area (ctrl + i), so now the selected area is everything but the rectangle. i now set dodge/burn to ‘dodge’, make the brush very small, around size 2, and lower the opacity. then i do the same thing again- draw a line right down the edge of the selected area.
step 4: unselect the area (ctrl + / on my keyboard) and you’ve got a seam! i sometimes soften the edges of the darkened area with the heal tool. if the seam is too dark you can try doing it again with a lower opacity on the burn tool, or if it’s too light you can repeat step 2.
as for patterns and accessories, there’s various things i do. often I go through textures of EA CAS items and look for textures to use- a belt buckle, a button, or sometimes lace or a pattern. More recently I’ve started drawing my own patterns based on historical examples.
one useful trick is using the textures of wallpaper or rugs as fabric! Most of the skirt patterns for my Priscilla outfit are taken directly from EA wallpapers.
if there’s any item in particular you want to ask about, let me know so i can be more specific x
