PERHAPS HE DID NOT. He had never assumed her loyalty much more than DUTY. As so many other of his high ranking elves. For who would be BOLD ENOUGH to defy their king ?? She obeyed him because it was what was commanded of her. What was EXPECTED. He would have liked to consider Tauriel a genuine friend. But pessimism reminded him that it could not be so. Even in the darkest depths of his loneliness. When none but the CAPTAIN HERSELF stood at his side, entertaining his whim because he had asked it of her. Had it been something more than simple loyalty to a king ?? SHE SUGGESTED THAT IT WAS.
