Kirsten Restoration, The Beginning
I did a scary thing and repainted Kirsten's eyes. One was almost fully silver and the other was starting to silver along the edges. I popped them out, took off the backs, and was surprised to find that the colored parts were covered by off-white paint - I assume meant to seal the color in?
Also, when I read "silver eye happens because the paint separates from the eye" I guess I wasn't expecting a *whole iris-shaped puck of paint* to be what was separating. I labeled those and put them in a bag to save for future color matching.
And there is a lot of grey in this supposedly blue eye. This is almost equal parts FolkArt True Blue and FolkArt Medium Gray. I carefully pulled the weights off the backs with pliers before painting the pupils in black, and then matched the iris color as best as I could.
In hindsight I should have waited a bit longer before mixing up that color because the pupils took longer than I expected to dry, and I didn't want to risk any black getting into the color.
While I waited I took her braids out and dunked the very ends in hot water, brushed them, and set them aside to dry. I don't think her hair was ever removed from the factory braids because they were perfect, but the ends were SO frizzy I didn't think I could fix them without removing them.
Then the first layer of color on the irises:
And restringing.
After the limbs were back on, I checked my work and then added the final layer of blue to the eyes and have set them aside to dry overnight.
I picked everything else up and put the body somewhere safe from cats. Now I have to Be Patient Until Morning, which. I'll be honest. I'm not great at. Alas, it cannot be helped. I can't rush this part.
Till tomorrow!
