Amory’s November Events:

Thanks to Amory Tradition and the very dedicated work of the Amory Parks & Rec department, Amory is always ready for any holiday or season. The Fall season and Pre-Thanksgiving period is full of various events, charity drives and activities that allow residents to feel closer to their community and better about their giving tendencies and spirit. This November, like so many before, the town’s calendar is full and a few of the town’s signature events will be happening this weekend and next!

THIS WEEKEND

Saturday, November 14, 2020

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!!!! This Saturday, Amory will be welcoming any and all volunteers to set up for the week’s festivities. Volunteers will be responsible for constructing the different booths, the main stage for the pumpkin eating contest and the boxes needed for the food drive.

As a thank you for volunteering, Mayor Morales will be stopping by with pizza and baked goods for the volunteers and giving them all free tickets to the fair.

Sunday, Novemeber 15, 2020

Calling all pie eaters!! Amory will be holding its 30th annual pumpkin pie eating contest. Come check out the competition, come participate and find out if reigning champ Helena Barritt will win!

Anyone attending is encouraged to bring food for the annual food drive. All proceeds and donations will go to the Amory Food Bank. Folks are encouraged to donate money just as much as food.

One of the main events of the fall, the fall farmer’s market and fair is a chance for the entire Amory community to come together. There’s plenty of local businesses selling food and produce and it’s important you don’t miss Tony and his large barbecue pit, which can be found towards the entrance of the fair.

Amory’s Fall Fair includes various carnival games, hay rides, a pumpkin patch and a photo booth with tons of props. It’s family friendly fun, but that still doesn't stop the high schoolers from wrecking havoc as soon as the sun goes down.

The 20th annual Turkey Run is an Amory staple, despite getting its start after tragedy struck. Every year the Turkey Run raises money for homeless children all over the state and got its start after a family in Amory lost their home to a fire on Thanksgiving day. The 5k run/walk is open to all ages and all audience members are welcome. Each person who finishes the race gets a large cup of cider, a turkey hat, a coupon to Tony’s BBQ and a Turkey Run t-shirt!

This weekends event will start this Friday, November 13, 2020 starting at 5pm EST and will last until Wednesday Novemeber 18th

Next weekends events will start Friday, November 20th and last until the following week. (we will make a reminder announcement next week!)

This event is completely optional but we encourage all characters to get involved in some way!

Valentine’s Day Event 

Love is in the air in Amory and almost every storefront is sporting cutout hearts, sales or plans for Valentine’s Day. Some folks are hosting Palentine’s Day parties or Anti-Valentine’s day gatherings. The Amory Town committee has always believed in relying on the local community businesses and individuals to carry out holiday traditions and celebrations. This year, the committee is happy to announce three wonderful, exciting and very filling events: 

Bar & Food Crawl

Local Bars and Restaurants are all participating in the Valentine’s Day Bar & Food Crawl. Not interested in getting caught up in all the sappiness of love? Or just looking for a fun activity to do with a loved on? Join the crawl, starting at the very tip of Amory Manor and ending at the train station parking lot in Amory Village for a food truck gathering for the town to enjoy. 

Pay It Forward

Whether you’re pro or anti, there is no denying that there is sweetness in doing something caring or loving for another person. With this in mind, each coffee shop in Amory, including bakeries like Sweet Strip and The Break Box are offering Pay It Forward deals and opportunities. Customers are encouraged to pay for other folks orders or coffees or even just giving an extra tip to the workers behind the counter. At the end of the weekend, Mayor Morales will be announcing just how much money was paid forward and how many folks participated. It’s said that there are some fairly wealthy donors willing to match the amount and donate it back to the town. 

Sweethearts Breakfast

This Valentine’s Day treat, those special someones in your life with a ‘Sweethearts’ deal at Mon Cœur Cafe! Celebrate your significant other, a family member or just a close friend with a meal created with them in mind. Each meal is tailor made for the two of you! Choose from a variety of themed dishes. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, we’ve got you covered! For those with an eye for the romantic dinner, each meal also comes with two tickets for the Dekker Ranch carriage rides and a bottle of Devereaux wine!

This event will begin on Thursday, February 11th at 5pm EST and last until Tuesday, February 16th at 12pm EST. 

As always, events are optional but highly encouraged! Your character can engage in as many or as few of the three activities as possible.

Happy December!

The holiday season is here and in full swing in Amory this December. The streets have been lined with multicolored lights since Thanksgiving, the storefronts showing various decorations from a full elf workshop to the bakery that has been selling latkes and sufganiyot at an all time high this year. Since the start of Hanukkah, Mayor Morales has been in the town center lighting a menorah that was recently donated by the Council of Interfaith Leaders in Amory. It is said she will also be unveiling a Kwanzaa display next week, said to have been partially donated by the towns African-American Advisory Board and Amory University’s Black Student Union. Schools will be closing on the 18th and soon the streets will be flooded with families, couples, rowdy teenagers just hoping to cause some joy and mischief, and most importantly, all the best and warmest parts Amory has to offer. 

But what is most anticipated every year is the Winter Food Festival, always held the week before Christmas and ending with the tree lighting in the town square. The food festival will feature food from restaurants all over Amory with a few imports from New York City.  Everything, however, is New York sourced and the majority of food sold at the festival is Amory-made. It is also one of the few festivals that the Montiel Factory donates heavily to, their olive oil booth one of the most well known at the festival. 

So join us from December 17th to December 23rd to celebrate this beautiful festival and tree lighting! Come try the food, enter some raffles, and don’t miss your chance to possibly get a selfie with Raphael Montiel who’s rumored to be staying true to his oddly Santa-like nature this year, many of the kids in Amory finding themselves greeted with a gift as soon as they arrive at the tree lighting.

Although we have set the scene and have provided a few things to get your characters going, we are HIGHLY encouraging you all to get a bit creative with how your character attends and experiences the festival and how they connect with each other. This is us fully encouraging drama !!! All that we ask if that you are planning anything that results in an injury/hospital visit/public spectacle, that you drop us a quick note to let us know and talk it over.
