∑ - Maybe there would be a day where Isabelle didn’t feel like everything was constantly screwing up. Being Head of the Institute wasn’t what she had in her life plan, in fact, Isabelle always saw herself as taking orders rather than giving them. But with the Clave having given her full reign of the New York Institute, she was worried. Part of her felt like she was going to lead the next generation of Shadowhunters down a bad path, making them end up in situations worse than what her and her brothers had to deal with. But with Simon by her side and her brother constantly checking up on her as her boss, she felt safer.

Here she was, alone in her office, taking a few minutes to herself with a glass of hard liquor that wouldn’t even cause her body to relax, Isabelle was taking a chance to breathe. She had young kids coming up to her, asking her for stories, asking her what heavenly fire felt like. She hated remembering what it felt like, to have her entire body combust, to be coursing with fire through every inch of her body. To stand there with the potential to hurt if not kill the boy she had just opened her heart up for. It wasn’t a memory she enjoyed retelling, hence the hard liquor. A knock at her door pulled her from her thoughts, “it’s open, Alec.” She knew that knocking pattern anywhere.

                  it    was    unfair    how    busy    the    shadowhunter    constantly    found    himself.    yet    he    always    found    different    ways    of    reminding    marina    how    dear    to    him    she’d    always    be.    even    though    it    was    difficult    to    recall    when    it    was    the    last    time    the    two    of    them    got    to    spend    quality    time    together,    alec    incessantly    was    in    marina’s    thoughts,    heart    and    above    all    things,    𝒉𝒆𝒓    𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔.   the    seashell    necklace    found    on    her    pillow    was    the    reason    why    she    smiled    the    entire    day    and    proudly    worn    it    around    her    neck.    the    mermaid    was    even    cheeky    enough    to    purposely    bring    attention    to    it,    and    whenever    asked,    with    a    stuffed    chest    and    the    brightest    grin    she’d    answer:    ❝    alec    lightwood,    my    handsome    and    kind    adoptive    brother,    gave    it    to    me    this    morning.    ❞
