"Are you serious about this?" General Iroh asks her, weeks after they've first arrived, weeks of Zuko's awkward affection and his strong, steady support.
Yue knows what he's asking.
She was raised to support her tribe. She was raised to hate the Fire Nation. She was raised to put her family and her tribesmen before all else.
She was raised like a pig to slaughter, sacrificed to the Fire Nation as a way to secure their tribe's safety. If her father had asked her to sacrifice herself, she likes to think that she would have said yes.
But he didn't ask.
Zuko always asks.
It's easier to give her answer than she thought it'd be.
"Yes."
General Iroh nods and doesn't say anything more.
A week later, one of Zuko's people comes to her in the morning and hands her a heavy package.
Inside is a coat, just like the one she wears now, except it's different. She doesn't know how they managed to make this all way up here.
It's dyed Fire Nation red except for the fur on the edges and inside, which is a bright blue. Thread of the same color is used to heavily embroider the jacket, detailed shimmering blue flames stretching across the red leather. Among the flames are delicately embroidered snowflakes and even though she looks for over an hour, she can't find any two that are exactly the same.
She wears the coat that day and Zuko smiles when he sees her, wide and instant and beautiful.
She doesn't know what face her father makes because she's not looking at him.
