@silverznight here ya go
key words: A summer night, ice cream
There’s sand between your toes, rough against your skin as you bury your feet deeper in the tiny grains. You let a contented sigh slip between chapped lips, tongue tracing the cracked skin and tasting nothing but strawberry and salted air. The heat of the summer sun has long since faded to a distant memory in the presence of a full moon and churning tides, leaving the sand pleasantly warm and the air pleasantly cool. The waves creep closer to your buried feet with every minute that passes, but you can’t find it in yourself to care about getting wet.
Sudden cheers down the beach have your eyes seeking out a dot of fire, bright against the black canvas of sky. A bonfire lights up the night, surrounded by a cluster of kids whooping and laughing as they successfully light a lantern and release it into the sky. Moments pass as you track the lantern’s progress through the air, floating further and further away until you can no longer make it out from the expanse of stars painted above you.
Sticky wetness finds its way to your palm, and you’re reminded of the strawberry ice cream cone clutched in between your fingers. A swipe of your tongue remedies the situation and you return your attention to the waves, gliding up the sand mere inches from you. If you close your eyes you can almost imagine you’re perched at the edge of the world. A soft smile lifts your lips and you allow yourself to get lost for a moment.
Only for a moment, though.
As you take your last bite of melted ice cream, you collect your feet beneath you and bring yourself to a stand, brushing your hands on your pants to rid them of waffle cone and sticky strawberry remains. One last longing look at the moon fracturing across the water’s surface and you turn to leave, feeling the water lap at your heels as if beckoning you back.
What you have in mind, however, is a long drive to nowhere. The thing you most enjoy about warm summer nights is the unspoken sense of freedom it leaves curled in your chest. You love the sensation of your fingers wrapped around a wheel, foot pressed against the gas, music blasting so loud it drowns out your thoughts. The beach is a comfort, but summer nights are short and you love to make the most of them.
