girl who does not play about paramore
“I heard she’s here on scholarship!”
“It makes sense, I mean how else could she have gotten in?”
“Exactly! Have you seen some of the clothes she wears? They reek of second handedness.”
Corrine tried as best she could to tune out the girls currently mocking her not ten feet away from her face, but it was damn near impossible. She knew it would come out eventually that she was less than wealthy, but knowing and accepting were two different things. She had tried her best to hide everything that would possibly give her away, but the press was relentless when it came to the Royals and those associated with them. She hadn’t seen Seb since the world found out about her financial status, but he had told her at least a hundred times that it meant nothing to him. He made it easy to believe that it didn’t matter, but these girls proved that it did.
“It’s only a matter of time before he dumps her like the trash she is.”
“I heard the king told him he had to! It makes sense, not wanting to associate with literal peasants.”
“He’s too nice to ever say it to her face, but we all know he’s thinking it.”

“I think we need a pause.”
Sebastian stopped mid stride at the words from his girlfriend and looked at her with the complete and utter disbelief he felt. “You’re joking, right?”
“No Seb,” she sighed, playing with her fingers nervously. “I just can’t do this right now.”
“Is this about the papers? Because you know that they are no big deal-”
“That’s the thing!” She cut him off. “They may not be a big deal to you, but they are to me! I’m not used to all of this attention and it’s really starting to get to me. I love you, Sebastian, but-:
“There is no but!” He reached out and grabbed her hands passionately. “That’s the only thing in the world that matters to me! If I could make it all go away, you know that I would in a heartbeat, but I don’t know how to. Unless...”
“Unless what?” She asked, daring to get her hopes up just the smallest amount.
“What if we just laid low? What if we only ever hung out at my place and we took a break from all of the public stuff? Do you think that would help?”
Honestly, she knew it was a temporary solution to a permanent problem, but the hope in his eyes caused her mouth to speak before her brain could catch up, “If I get to be with you, it’s worth a shot.”

“Hey Corrine,” Sebastian greeted his friend sheepishly. “Do you have a second to talk?”
Corrine finished putting her books away and nodded. “What are you doing out of uniform?”
Sebastian looked down at his clothes rather dumbly. “Oh, I spilt chemicals on it in lab today and has to call for an emergency change of clothes. It was pretty embarrassing to have my PPO show up in the middle of class to call for me to change.”
The blonde girl laughed and nodded. “That would happen to you. So what did you want to talk about?”
“Right, well I was just wondering if maybe you would want to hang out sometime?” He was fumbling over his words due to nerves and he wanted to kick himself for it.
She gave him a puzzled look before it finally connected. “Are you asking me out? Like, on a date?”
He nodded slowly. “I was trying to at least. But if you don’t want to, that’s totally fine too! No pressure at all!”
She gave him a huge grin and nodded. “I was wondering how long it would take for you to ask me.”
He looked at her and blinked twice. “What? You knew I liked you and you didn’t say anything?”
She shrugged noncommittally. “It’s not like I could just walk up to a prince and ask him out! And I didn’t know for sure that you liked me, it was just a feeling. I’m surprised you couldn’t tell how much I like you.”
“You like me?” He asked, sounding way more excited than he had meant to.
“Would I be going on a date with you if I didn’t?” She raised her eyebrows teasingly.
He blushed and rubbed his neck awkwardly. “I guess not. So I will pick you up tomorrow around six? You can just text me your address and I can-“
“How about we just meet wherever we are going?” She interrupted him. Her demeanor had gone from playfully flirty to guarded in milliseconds and he didn’t understand why. “It will be easier for both of us that way I think.”
“If you’re sure,” he hedged. “I will text you the address then.”
She visibly relaxed and nodded thankfully. “I can’t wait, Seb. See you tomorrow!”
“A picnic at the lookout point? Who knew you were such a romantic, Seb?” Corrine swung their interlocked hands playfully and smiled up at him with adoration in her eyes.
Sebastian blushed and shrugged his shoulders in an attempt to look cooler than he felt. “I like to come here to get away from things sometimes and I thought you would like it here, that’s all.”
“Well, you thought right.” She smiled brightly and stepped in front of him, wrapping his arms around her from behind. “Can I tell you a secret?”
He took a second to reply, overwhelmed by their sudden closeness. It wasn’t a bad sort of overwhelming, just… a lot. “Y-Yeah! Of course you can.”
She looked up at him over her shoulder and smiled that sweet smile that gave him butterflies. “This was my first date. You’ve set the bar pretty high for anyone else to ever live up to.”
He felt himself relax at her admission and he couldn’t help the laugh of relief that sounded out of him. “You have no idea how much better that makes me feel. This is my first date too, and I couldn’t have asked for it to be with anyone better.”
“See,” she laughed as she moved behind him and jumped onto his back rather suddenly. “A true romantic.”
“Hey Corrine,” he smiled widely back at her. “Can I tell you a secret now?”
“Anything,” she whispered, moving her face closer to his.
He tilted his head back and caught her lips with his gently. The kiss was soft and sweet, but full of emotion from both of them. He was the one to pull away reluctantly after both of them began smiling into the kiss. “That was my first kiss, and I don’t think any other girl will match up to that.”
She brushed her nose against his ear affectionately and giggled. “I don’t want any other girls kissing you any more than I want to be going on dates with other guys. You’ve definitely set the bar way too high here, Your Royal Highness.”
“This isn’t working.”
Seb stared at his girlfriend before him. “What are you talking about?”
“This!” She motioned between the two of them. “I can’t keep doing this!”
“What’s wrong with what we’ve been doing?” He asked desperately. “We have been staying on the down low and avoiding public appearances together. What else are we supposed to do?”
“That’s just it,” she sighed. “I don’t know. And I can’t keep pretending that I’m okay with having you only some of the time.”
“So you’d rather have each other none of the time?” He asked completely bewildered.
“Yes! No. I don’t know! I just don’t think I’m your girl. And I can’t keep pretending I can be.”
He looked at her and saw how tired she truly was. She clearly didn’t want to keep going through the constant fight that it was to be with him, so who was he to force her to? He finally decided with tears in his eyes that it was time to let her go. “Okay.”
