wild women don't get the blues
“He’s gone.”
“She’s here!”
“Thanks again for coming over,” Flynn sighed as he led his sister to a wing of the palace with a bit more privacy than the rest. “Things have been pretty crazy around here lately.”
“I’m always here for you,” Freya reminded her twin. “You know that.”
“It’s just been a lot to take in with dad being sick and now Nell being pregnant. I just feel like I have no control over anything that’s happening to me.”
Freya nodded in understanding. “I hate to burst what’s left of you bubble Flynny, but you really don’t have any control. Dad is sick and yes, that really sucks, but the only thing you have control over in that situation is how you react. The same goes for Nellie being pregnant. You made the decision to have a baby and now you have to live with the results.”
“I don’t regret it,” Flynn rushes to reassure her. “I’m excited actually, but it’s just so terrifying to have no say in what happens at all and to watch helplessly.”
“You’re not helpless. You are never helpless, Flynny.”
“Then why do I feel so useless?”
Freya sighed in response. “You need to step up now more than ever. I know we don’t want to think about it, but Papa’s time is running out and we both know what that means for you especially. You need to be ready because no one is going to be waiting for you to get your shit together. We both know how hard the job is and you need to be mentally present in order to do the job. It’s time to stop feeling sorry for yourself and be the Crown Prince.”
Flynn considered her words for a moment before nodding in response. “I still think it should’ve been you.”
“But it’s not,” she smiled sadly. “So do it for both of us.”
“Have you gotten a second opinion?” Elowen asked through tear filled eyes. “Maybe the doctor was wrong.”
“I’ve gotten four different doctor’s to tell me the exact same thing. I’m so sorry kids,” Brennen said as he looked across the table to see each of his children in various stages of shock at his news.
“But there must be something that they can do, right?” Colette piped in. “Some sort of treatment to at least give you more time?”
Brennen shook his head. “I’ve had a lot of time. No treatment that they can offer is worth the side effects.”
“But you can’t leave us,” Avia sobbed. “What will we do without you?”
“I’m not going anywhere yet my dear,” Brennen laughed, spurring on another coughing fit. “And besides, you have each other. That’s what matters most.”
“And you have us,” Freya said fervently. “Whatever you need, we will help.”
“I know you will,” Brennen smiled.
“What did you want to talk to me about?” Freya asked as she sat on the palace lawn.
“It’s kind of complicated,” Flynn sighed.
“Everything is complicated with you,” his sister teased. “Just spit it out.”
“Nell wants kids.”
Freya blinked. “And?”
“What do you mean ‘and’?”
“I mean you are married, the heir to the throne, and I don’t see what the issue here is.”
He sighed again and ran a hand through his already messy hair. “I thought that you of all people would understand.”
“Understand what? What am I missing here?”
“If we have children she could die!” He burst out.
“Woah,” Freya held her hands up. “Calm down Flynny.”
“How the hell did you do it?” He was close to tears now. “How could you go through that after what happened to mom?”
Freya felt her own eyes well up with tears. “It was really hard, if I’m being honest. I was terrified.”
“But you did it twice,” he pointed out.
She nodded. “I did. And I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m not saying I would do it again, but I don’t regret having my kids.”
“Frey, you know I love those kids more than anything, but I have to ask. Were they really worth the risk of dying?”
A soft smile made its way to her lips. “Yes. But I don’t think that that’s the way you should think about it. All of us are constantly a second away from death. A meteor could strike down right here right now and we could be gone. You could be assassinated for being heir to the throne at any minute. I decided that the reward of Alec, Ellis, and Poppy far outweighed the fear. You need to decide for yourself, but it’s clear that Nell has made her decision.”
“But mom.”
“What happened to mom was a one in a million accident. You can’t live your life in constant fear because of the past, Flynny. At some point life will move on without you.”
A Secret Wedding?
Photos emerged this morning of Princess Freya in a beautiful white gown under an arch with her current fiancé Lord Caius Bradley and we can only assume one thing: the princess got married secretly! We are unsure of the reason for the secretive wedding but we are glad that at least some photos have surfaced of the event. The princess looked beautiful and we wish the newly married couple the best in their relationship.
The Palace released some pictures of HM’s visit with his oldest daughter Princess Freya and her children. Despite all of his children apart from the Crown Prince moving away from the palace, HM still makes time to see each of his children and spend time with his grandchildren as frequently as his schedule allows.
“He’s really dying,” Colette finally spoke after she could no longer stand the silence. Their father had left them to discuss their thoughts privately and now the six children just sat in complete shock and despair.
“Don’t say that,” Avia chastised.
“It’s true though,” Beckett laughed humorlessly. “And the only reason he bothered telling us is because Freya figured it out!”
Freya shook her head disapprovingly. “He wanted to tell us all together. And it couldn’t have been easy to bring up to any of us.”
“He doesn’t appear to be in much pain at least,” Elowen commented.
Flynn waved a hand dismissively. “He’s always been good at hiding his pain, physical or emotional.”
“I just can’t believe any of this,” Avia said softly. “We knew he was getting older but…”
“But we always thought of him as superhuman,” Freya supplied.
“He always seemed so untouchable,” Elowen agreed.
“Even kings face mortality,” Flynn muttered.
