“Time to get up, Jem.” As she blinks up at him, disoriented, he brushes his thumb along her cheek. “You want a shower?”
Her head is stuffed full of cotton. She tries to knock his hand away from her face and not only misses, but manages to hit herself in the nose in the process. Fortunately, there’s no real force behind it.
“Yeah, you do,” he decides around a laugh, tugging her up to sit. “Come on. It’ll help you wake up.”
She shoves him away more successfully this time (though still without true force), crawls out of bed, and stumbles into the bathroom. Thinking is like trying to swim through jelly; it takes her a good thirty seconds to figure out the very simple lock on the bathroom door, and she nearly loses her balance as she undresses.
