Simmons and Donut is a bit different. A lot of the time the reds are a bit quick to shoot down Donut, and Donut just shakes it off all the time. But I can see him giving Simmons a bit more attention secretly, like leave him some sweets, clean up a bit more, just trying to ease Simmons. All because he gets it. He had to oppress everything that made him up for so long and still does it, he knows what it feels like for blood to hate and to be ignored and forgotten. He understands Simmons in some ways, though he never admits as much to Simmons. Donut just deflects some of the comments that could be made of Simmons to save him a bit, effectively catching the comment himself.
