Been listening to the audiobook for The Vampire Lestat because I needed a new audiobook to enjoy when running and doing chores. And I have some thoughts and no where else to share them other than here.
Simon Vance (the narrator) is amazing. I haven't enjoyed a narrator so much since Christian Coulson. They don't sound anything alike, but they both act more than read, do accents well, and make me feel everything. It's a true experience and so easy to lose myself in the story. Highly recommend.
The fate of Nicolas de Lenfent still brings me to tears every time. It seems so unfair, but also so real, which is the exact combo that makes it hurt so much. I think we've all either been or known someone so angry at the injustice and mystery (or lack of mystery, which strangely manages to exists at the same time despite being contradictory states) of the world that they chose to destroy themselves (and everyone around them) rather than be a part of it. Nicolas in specific seemed to have no other fate than to die young, even had Lestat never became part of his life. It's such a tradgedy and never fails to make me feel gutted.
