My thoughts on the TV adaptation of One of Us is Lying (ep 1-3)(not in order)
I was watching it with my friend and we were both very nit picky about it, but with some thinking and seeing other people’s opinion’s, I’m trying to have more of a open mind. And also by rewatching them. Also, heads up! Minor spoiler for One of Us is Next, in case you haven’t read it.
I was hesitant about the casting, but all the actors do a good job
(I liked Maeve and Simon’s beforehand though)
Bronwyn actually got her introduction that was not in the first seven minutes!
Why is Evan British?
Between the detention scene and Nate and Bronwyn’s interaction right after, the show needs to learn to take it’s time more. It’s rushes itself a bit when it comes to these scenes
Idk why I’m starting to love TJ now
Vanessa and Addy’s mom are both incredibly aggravating like in the book so that’s a plus
I was so ready to see the car crash
dang
I don’t like that Bronwyn and Evan are a couple because when she and Nate get together, it’s going to be very heartbreaking for Evan and for the viewers to see. Evan wasn’t supposed to be a character or someone Bronwyn had true feelings for, he was supposed to be an expectation for Bronwyn; someone who seemed like the perfect type for her. Before she discovers that her true feelings belong to Nate.
I enjoy Maeve, but I’m not sure how I feel about the new things added to her storyline
I don’t picture her having a previous relationship with Simon, him ghosting her, and that being the reason why she hates him
The reason in the book was perfectly fine and also gave Bronwyn a motive for possibly killing him (or wanting to)
Where is Ashton? (hopefully she’ll appear next episode)
WHERE IS MY BOY LUIS?
Bronwyn and Maeve don’t seem particularly close and that upsets me because of how much I adore their relationship in the book.
It’s interesting Maeve had symptoms of a relapse of her leukemia when that would happen in One of Us is Next
Maybe they are not sure if they’ll get picked up for another season so they want to add some elements from the sequel.
I like how they showcase Addy’s anxiety about the whole situation
Annalisa Cochrane is a very talented actress btw
The way Cooper’s storyline about him being gay is portrayed ...hmm
At first I didn’t like how everything was coming up so early such as the revelation that he was gay and the introduction of Cooper and Kris’s relationship. Also that Keely and Lucas knew and that Keely and Cooper were now fake dating to help him and to scare off her ex-boyfriend. Mainly because I liked it as a twist in the book.
Now that I’ve thought more about this, I’m fine with the change that Cooper’s secret is revealed practically right way. It doesn’t take away from the stress the audience and Cooper feel if and when it comes out. Especially to his dad. It’s cool the viewers are let in on it from episode one.
I don’t like Kris too much, though. It’s cool that they are developing him and making him an actual character as opposed to just Cooper’s boyfriend/hook-up. I just don’t like that he gets mad at Cooper that he is hiding who he really is. After everything Cooper has told him about the pressure put on him, I’d think Kris would be more understanding. Who cares if he didn’t tell you right away about his dad and everything else? Hopefully he will be more considerate in the next batch of episodes.
