‘Competitiveness’ is often seen as a good thing, a trait to be admired. It can, in a couple of ways, be detrimental to your success. Firstly, if you’re competing with people on your own team who are all working towards the same goal then odds are that you’re creating interference that is getting in the way of achieving the collective potential. Secondly, if you’re focusing on the competitor, instead of what you are trying to achieve, then you’re taking your focus off the prize and potentially heading in a direction that is taking you away from where you need to be. One simple antidote to this is ‘curiosity’. Instead of looking at your colleague or competitor and asking, “How can I be better than him or her?”, ask instead, “What can I learn from what they are doing that I could apply to myself in order to grow and improve?” Also ask, “How could we work together to achieve goals that will benefit both of us?” Focus on your dream and not the competitor. #leadership #growth #change #collaboration #perspective #behaviours #courage #curiosity #complexity #sydney #sydneyceo #sydneycbd #sydneylife #sydneydirector #executive #executivesuite #executiveofficer #executivecoaching #executivedirector #ceolife #ceo #australianceo #australianexecutive #campbellleadershipsolutions #simonsinekquote
