Yesterday I saw a great display of vulnerability and trust. • I had the privilege of working with a group of business owners in the financial sector on the topic of #resilience. • I asked them to tell each other stories of how they had overcome adversity in the past. In doing so, without realising it, they revealed strengths they didn’t know they had to those who were listening. Their colleagues then reflected those strengths back to the storyteller. • What was amazing was the level of trust in the room. This trust allowed these business men and women to relate some very personal aspects of their lives. Because of this #vulnerability and trust the learning was so much deeper than it would have been otherwise. • This was in stark contrast to earlier in the day when I saw a so-called ‘leader’ from a different group ask for vulnerability from her followers without demonstrating any capacity to do it herself. • #leadership #executivecoaching #learning #trust #community #communication #corporateaustralia #curiosity #complexity #strengthinadversity #resilienceassets #growth #courage #sydneyleaders #australianleaders #australianceo #sydneyceo #campbellleadershipsolutions (at Sydney, Australia)

A “difference” does not have to be a world-changing event. It can be as simple as checking in with someone and making sure they are ok. It could be engaging in conversation with the person serving you at the shop and making them feel valued. It could be putting the phone down and really listening to the person in front of you. There are so many organisations out there that have no empathy for their employees, so you could make a difference by injecting just a little bit of empathy in to your circle of influence.
