SIMPLE BUT TIME CONSUMING: old/abandoned roads.

First zip ahead to place logs and lanterns so you remember generally where you're going. Then tap like crazy with a shovel to leave the traditional path marks scattered about. Choose two or three types of bricks, and replace some of the dirt blocks with each kind.

This is a long-term project for me that will connect several maps, but you can make smaller roads and paths around gardens or ponds that lead to your house etc.

This is like the tree equivalent of a dirt house haha. I love these kinds of builds: see trees close together, then fill in the gaps with whatever stones you're carrying, leaves and glass.

One of my favorite ways to tuck torches away and make them more like lamps: trap doors! Of course you can’t use the solid ones, but the ones you can see through (oak, jungle wood) work great. The only thing is, the torch and trap door can’t take up the same block of space, so you have to put up a “dummy” block (one you aren’t going to keep there) to get the trap door to go the right way:

1. there’s where I want my torch!

2. I add the dummy block I don’t want to keep

3. I tap the part of the dummy block closest to the torch to place the trap so it will swing to cover the torch

4. I tap the trap door to make sure it goes where I want

5. I destroy the dummy block

6. The trap will still open and close

Dark oak treetop base! Still adding details here and there but the best decision was definitely to add a small potato garden. If you don't want to go to groud level any time soon, or if you're in a biome that has few animals, potatoes are the best things to plant. Baked potatoes are the best if there's no meat around.

Almost invisible little tree camp. Baddies can't see me but I can see them through the leaves. Simple farm plot--I stayed at this camp through a couple of growing cycles so I'd have enough seeds and food to leave behind.

Hidden mini base: leaves and flowers hide the main entrance, step inside for a brightly colored little cave base. Doors open into a cave for mining. Fence posts are great for a simpler/hurried construction look vs planks. I feel like they add a lot to what is otherwise a dirt house:)
