Twist Wrap Ponytail

In order to add a bit more “professionalism” to a ponytail, it’s always nice to wrap a little piece of hair around the hair tie so that it’s hidden. But what if we used that wrap as part of hairstyle itself? This ponytail uses the technique of wrapping as both the concealer of the hair tie and as an accessory to the look. It’s subtle, but different and adds a new impact to any ponytail.

Materials:

1) Brush

2) Hair Tie

3) Bobby Pins

Procedure:

1) Begin by brushing your hair into a tight high ponytail.

2) Separate a quarter of your hair.

3) Rope twist this section of hair down to the bottom.

4) Tug at the different areas of the twist in order to give it more texture.

5) Begin to wrap the twist around your hair tie. Don’t be afraid of it being big or building up taller.

6) Finish by bobby pinning the ends of your twist in place.

Chevron Pins

Welcome to my first Sunday tutorial!! In case you missed it, my weekly tutorials are moving from Fridays to Sundays now. I had so much fun creating my last bobby pin hairstyle that I couldn’t help but make a second! I think colourful pins are one of the best ways to change up a basic hairstyle -- and it only takes a couple of extra minutes! Play around with different colour combinations to make the style truly yours.

Materials:

1) Brush

2) Hair Tie

3) Two bright colours of bobby pins (minimum of 4 of each colour)

Procedure:

1) Begin by tying your your hair into a slick middle ponytail.

2) On one side of your head near the front, place one colour of bobby pin on a diagonal angle.

3) Place a same-coloured pin directly below the first, but on an opposite diagonal so it makes a V-shape.

4) A half-inch behind the first set of pins, repeat steps 2 and 3 with a second colour of bobby pins. 

5) Go back to your first pin colour, and add another chevron shape behind the second.

6) Continue creating the chevron pattern as you move towards the back of your head, stopping once you reach the ponytail.

Heightened Ponytail Trick

The subtleties matter! Ponytails are my go-to hairstyle, but I always find myself struggling with getting a good ponytail in the middle of my head. I often find that mid-ponytails are much more prone to drooping than any other. Yes, an easy solution to this would be to pull the hair tighter but oftentimes that causes the strain that it is uncomfortable. Instead, this hairstyle reduces all of that while also finding a good use for the tiny claw clips you have hanging around the house. This hairstyle is even easy to accomplish for those who are not the most practiced in hair, but still remains very impactful.

Materials:

1) Brush

2) Hair Tie

3) 3 Claw Clips

4) Bobby Pins

Procedure:

1) Brush your hair into a ponytail in the middle of your head.

2) Split your ponytail into a top half and bottom half.

3) Vertically stick your claw clip in between the two sections.

4) Underneath the entire ponytail, horizontally place a two claw clips just along the bottom edge of the hair tie.

5) In order to cover up the clips, wrap a small piece of hair around the base of the ponytail and bobby pin into place.

Easy Hidden Ponytail

This week’s tutorial is a quick one on how to easily take your ponytail to the next level.  This criss-cross and wrap technique is a great way to hide your hair tie, especially for middle and low ponytails.  

Materials:

1) Brush

2) Comb

3) Hair Tie

4) Bobby Pins

Procedure:

1) Start by brushing through your hair.

2) Use your comb to separate approximately two inches of hair along the front of your head.

3) Tie the rest of your hair into a ponytail at the back of your head.

4) Take one half of the separated hair and bring it across the back of your head.

5) Wrap the piece over the hair tie and pin it in place below using a bobby pin.

6) Take the second half of separated hair and bring it across the back of your head, making an “X” with the first piece.

7) Wrap the piece over the hair tie, pinning it under the ponytail with another bobby pin.

8) To definitely secure the pieces in place, use more bobby pins below the ponytail.  Finalize with hairspray.

Bubble Side Ponytail

Today’s hair tutorial is a different take on the bubble ponytail.  This version is a side ponytail which gradually incorporates more hair before becoming the regular low bubble ponytail.  In this tutorial, I create 5 separate bubble sections.  However, depending on your hair length and the size you would like to make your bubbles, you can make more or less.

Materials:

1) Brush

2) 5 Small Hair Ties

Procedure:

1) Begin by brushing out your hair.

2) Grab a small section of hair from one side of the head and tie into a ponytail.

3) Moving to the middle of the head, tie a second section of hair that also incorporates the first ponytail.

4) Gather the remainder of hair (including the already made ponytail) into another ponytail behind the ear.

5) Tie two more ponytails approximately three inches apart from eachother at the bottom of your hair.

6) Go back to the first ponytail and pull at it to create a bubble effect.  Make sure to pull in all directions to make a round shape

7) Continue creating bubbles with the rest of the ponytails and finalize with hairspray.

Twisted Ponytail

Here’s another option for those struggling with a French Braid.  Keeping track of three pieces of hair can be difficult and time consuming, especially when starting out.  This Twisted Ponytail is the perfect style for those who are looking for an alternative to the basic French Braid.  Check it out!

Materials:

1) Brush

2) Hair Tie

Procedure:

1) Begin by brushing your hair.

2) Take two pieces of hair from the middle top of the head.

3) Cross the two pieces of hair so they have switched places.

4) Add in more hair to each of the two pieces.

5) Once again, cross the two pieces of hair so they have switched places.

6) Continue this process of adding in and twisting hair.

7) Once all of the hair is used up, tightly tie into a ponytail.  Finish with hairspray.

Side Wrapped Ponytail

If you need a new way to jazz up your ponytail, then this hairstyle may be for you.  Today’s brand new tutorial is for an easy side ponytail that includes a wrapped braid for extra detail.

Materials:

1) Brush

2) Large Hair Tie

3) Small Hair Tie

4) Bobby Pins

Procedure:

1) Begin by brushing out your hair.

2) Put approximately three quarters of your hair into a side ponytail.

3) With the remaining third, create a regular three-strand braid and tie off with a small hair tie.

4) Bring the braid across the head and begin to wrap it around the ponytail.

5) Hold the braid in place using bobby pins and hairspray.

Pony-Based Braid

This week’s hairstyle will quickly become one of your favourites!  This “braid” is actually constructed using a bunch of tiny ponytails.  It is perfect for those who struggle to create a French Braid at the back of the head or for those who just want to change things up!

Materials:

1) Brush

2) Large Hair Tie

3) Small Hair Ties

Procedure:

1) Begin by brushing through your hair.

2) Create a half up ponytail with the middle section of your hair.

3) Gather two small sections of hair, one from each side of the front of your head.

4) Tie the two sections together with a small hair tie slightly off to the left of your first ponytail.

5) Gather another two small sections of hair from the front of your head.

6) Tie the two sections together.  This time, slightly off to the right of your head.

7) Repeat steps 3-6 down the head.

8) Once at the nape of you neck, use a large hair tie to gather all of the remaining hair into a ponytail.  Finalize with hairspray.
