I sometimes think its weird that everyone must have a 'favourite doctor'. I get the appeal, but how its so wide spread baffles me.

Theyre all one person, in the end, with each regeneration being all that came before and more, and a little different due to the experiences they had and the people theyve met, just how I am different from when I was 15 years old, but still the same.

I have a favourite doctor for conveniency reasons, mostly, 12- but even then, whats a 'favourite doctor'. My favourite performance? My favourite to have a fun time with? My favourite to make me aspire to be better? My favourite to laugh, my favourite to cry for? Theyre all different. I love 12 as much as I love 1 or 2 or 3 or 4. Maybe I have incarnations I dont feel as strongly for, but thats usually out of unfamiliarity with all they went through and by such an inability to truly grasp who the doctor was when they wore that face (e.g. my only experience with 8 being the tv movie) or because they amplify parts of the doctor Im less fond of (e.g. six being a little mean).

But in the end, theyre all of it anyway? All of the Doctor is mean, whether its the first doctor or the sixth or the tenth, all doctors are kind, whether its the second or fourth or 12th or 14th, all of the doctor has experienced grief, all of them is strong willed, brave, afraid.

I like the idea of having a 'favourite'. To me its a little like your favourite actors role, I love david tennants hamlet more than I like his alec hardy, but I still love his acting, period.

But this obsession of needing a favourite doctor, of needing to love one part of this beautiful, incredible character more than others, often it feels unfair to who they are. This grand person being reduced to a few years of their endlessly long life. To a single face.

Maybe that's what feels so real about thoschei. Companions tend to get attached to a face. To this one part. To the master the current doctor's body is secondary.

And they are, in fact, all the Doctor.

Controversial but i think comics are so long running that its okay to have a favorite era for your fav and that be the one you care abt. Like i perfer 80s-90s comics for a lot of my favs. If im talking abt comics im usually talking abt my favs under that canon ruleset and events. I actually realize i dont really care abt those characters as much post reboots (bc rlly most of the time...what even if there?).

I think thats fine lol. And i think its fine if u perfer post reboots and so on. Lowkey thats the point of rebooting the canon is to categorize the fanbase and bring in new fans to comics but if u like an older era then sure thats neat.

I like the Since Then chapter. It's a fun romp into the post series that was obviously designed to invoke nostalgia by hitting all of the key points from the original. Having said that, I think there was a far better Shikon Jewel related antagonist that could be used in place of 'demon sealed for 50 years and doesn't know the jewels been destroyed'. And that, my friends, would be the Noh Mask.

'But the masks been destroyed' I hear you cry, and you're correct. It was destroyed. In Kagome's era. After taking the long way around. After the Noh Mask incident, there are technically two copies of the same shard in Feudal Japan. The one that is in a tree waiting to be made into a mask, and one that has existed for 500 years, travelled back in time and was used to complete the jewel. Thus there is the equivalent of an entire sacred jewel +1 worth of shards and I think it would be fun to play around with that +1.

Perhaps the Noh Mask is finally making enough of a commotion that the gang decide to check it out. Maybe its business as usual for Inuyasha and Miroku until the see the mask; Miroku's not strong enough to seal it, every time Inuyasha destroys the mask it reforms and neither of them can figure out why. Why would they even consider a shard when the jewel was destroyed? So they get the girls in the hopes that more manpower will help. Either way, as the group travels Kagome feels the familiar sensation of a jewels shard, and confusion takes hold of the group. At least until Kagome spots the mask and realisation dawns on her. Inuyasha and Sango distract the Noh Mask while Kagome and Miroku work on sealing it away, under Kagome's insistence that the mask cannot be destroyed and the shard cannot be removed. Once the mask is dealt with, Kagome takes it to remain under the protection of her and Kaede. That way both the anime and the manga versions of the story can hold true. Either the mask is given to the Higurashi shrine for protection when it is built (anime) or after Kagome passes there is no one strong enough to maintain the seal and it is passed off to another spiritualist eventually landing in the hands of the lady who is possessed by the mask (manga).

Perhaps these kinds of stories work better in fanfic, but I can't deny I love the idea of post series stories working with this jewel shard, and I think it would've been awesome to see in a storyline determined to play off nostalgia.
