Chalk and Cheese: Autumn Serenade
Sorry about my inactivity here... I didn’t intentionally let this account go dormant, but it became a matter of time budgeting in an insanely busy time of year. I still post personal photos, vegan recipes and fan material to my Twitter and Instagram accounts... though I love Tumblr’s flexibility and its creative possibilities for those of us who DON’T speak entirely in soundbites (or consider 280 characters overly verbose... news flash,Twitter purists... none of you are exactly Oscar Wilde) I’ve never gotten much response here on any of my personal work, so I’ve had to focus on sites where people actually respond to my posts.
I know the comic is a hard sell, not conventionally “ha ha” funny a lot of the time, and that my drawing still needs work... I’ve been taking much more time on the drawings lately, hence my reduced output. But I do still love these characters and want to make something of this, even if no one else cares. I have too many abandoned creative projects in my past... I only wish I’d had the idea and determination fir this years ago... my drawing might be where I want it to be by now.
So... yes, I’m gonna keep subjecting you to these. I hope I’m able to make more time for Tumblr posts in the future... feel free to follow my other social media accounts if you want more regular updates and crazy recipe posts.
I’d also consider making more Marc Warren GIFs, though he hasn’t been as busy in recent years. (His most recent gig is promising, though-- he’s been cast alongside Michael C Hall in the Netflix limited series Safe, which will stream next year. There have been only a few blurry (unofficial) set photos so far, so I haven’t posted much about that... I also get a sense Marc is uncomfortable being in the public eye too much recently (in contrast to even a few years ago). As a fan I’m trying to be more circumspect and not post anything he hasn’t approved of. There hasn’t been much “unapproved” material, thankfully... I would still love to chat with other fans (of Marc’s and of any of my other interests). I also wish he was more willing to share his personal creative efforts with he public, as he once did (on YouTube and other places) but that’s ultimately his call and his privacy should be respected.
By the way, Marc will not appear in the indie film GateCrash, which I may have previously mentioned here... the film was made, but the casting notice that suggested he was a lead was erroneous. Since Marc’s JSMN costar Samuel West is the real lead, I have to wonder if someone reporting the casting several months ago didn’t get their wires a little crossed.
No, this isn’t based on James Corden’s periodic celebrity stunts, which I’ve never actually watched, but on what ordinary people actually do when singing in the privacy of their own vehicles. My partner John actually selected Kozu’s song (Kozu is loosely based on him), which was much funnier than anything I’d come up with for the character. I know all the songs are somewhat obscure, but so are my tastes, and I’d rather be quirky and baffling than just name-drop acts on the pop charts. But I will supply links for the four songs.
Lucy’s little Warren Zevon tribute was inspired by a real event... one afternoon I suddenly, spontaneously started singing this song in a random grocery store parking lot amid my errands. I hadn’t been listening to it in the car, and have no idea where it came from, nor did anyone hear me, to the best of my knowledge. (No mortifying cellphone videos have turned up on YouTube, at least...) I later thought it’d be cool to have Lucy sing the song, as she’s a bit of a Suzie Lightning (though she’s more loyal to her loved ones)... of course, if someone like Lucy started singing the song, it’d turn into a massive sing-along within minutes.
