Singing Bee
Hey drama boy, what's that play you did even about?
Weirdo kids competing against each other at a spelling bee.
^^That was my life in middle school, by the way. It’s just as weird and awkward as a real spelling bee–the difference being that the musical is actually fun to watch.
so how did the show go? did you mess up at all?
Nope! I love theatre.
Congrats on the show! Are you gonna try to get a congradulator kiss for your new girlfriend???
Thanks.
Uhhhh, I mean, that’s up to her, I guess. Or, I mean--I probably--
You know what, I don’t plan kisses and tell.
how did you get in the play anyways? you're just a freshman? don't seniors usually get lead roles? like, kaden getting a part makes sense, but you? how? are you just that good?
Like I said, I’m basically the character in the flesh.
Also, private voice lessons. Take that, untrained seniors.
who are you in the musical?
William Barfee. That’s pronounced Bar-fay. There’s an accent aigu.
I wonder if Shayne’s going to roll his eyes at the name...
So, uh. I sing about spelling words by writing them on the floor with my feet. And, uh. They amp up my dorkiness. I have glasses. And an askew tie. And my hair is crazier than normal. But Barfee’s mom says he’s going to grow up to be very handsome. ONE DAY.
And also he has a crush on the shy, quiet girl.
Basically, I’m playing myself.
At the 25th annual Putnam County spelling bee...
Kaden! The SM said to tell you ten ‘til places. And happy O-P-E-N-I-N-G night.
I was watching them recruit the audience participants. I think I saw your brother make a beeline straight past them.
