1. What did you do to warm up your voice today?
Today in the lesson we did physical warm ups to do with rolling our shoulders backwards and then forwards to loosen them up and then we massaged our faces to loosen our cheeks up and our face to loosen the tension from our faces. after this we went onto the vocal exercises, we started off with our breathing exercises where we breathed in for 4 held for 4 and breathed out for 4,8,12,16 and 20. this helped us to prepare breathing in before we started to sing but also to hold onto notes for longer and learning to control our breath properly when singing so we didn’t let out too much air. we also did the humming in 3rds so that we could warm up our vocal cords and not strain them straight away, We then went from humming into ‘ar’ as we slide back down. we did some musical phrases which included ‘i like the flowers’ ‘12345′ and ‘1.121.12321.1234321.123454321.’
2. Describe the tasks set for the session.
within the session the tasks where to go through Gay or European and sort out the harmonies in it, so we could look into blocking it later on. We needed to make sure that we knew the lyrics and that we were getting the timing right for the solo parts and also for the ensemble parts so that we weren’t relying on Georgii. As well as this we also worked on blackbird and the harmonies at the end of that as well.
Within Beckys lesson we needed to rehearse our solos and run through it ready for our final assessment of them, within the lesson we got told what grades our peers thought our solos were at and why and then further how to improve so that we could get the best grade possible for our assessment.
3. Describe your rehearsal, performance and the progress you have made here.
In our rehearsal with Georgii we made progress with the harmonies and the timing of when to sing solo and ensemble parts. we’ve also progressed in the parts where we have to sing quieter/louder and properly announce the words clear altogether. In blackbird when we sang through we worked on our projection when singing and then also we worked on the harmonies for the final blackbird where we split into three groups, one group sang first then the second joined in and finally the third group.
4. What was your feedback today from your tutor and peers?
Feedback from my solo was more confidence and think about my character in the song, what she’s feeling, what she’s singing about and the emotions behind the lyric.
i have to be less nervous and have more fun with it.
open my mouth more and use eye contact with the audience.
5. What exercises and songs do you plan to rehearse at home to help you to improve your vocal technique?
I’m planning on rehearsing both gay or European and blackbird for next rehearsal with Georgii, i’m also going to do my scales and the other vocal techniques that we’ve been taught to do. I’m also going to rehearse my solo for my singing assessment next week, working on characterisation and my movement.
6. Create yourself a to do list.
rehearse vocal techniques and exercises.
rehearse gay or european and blackbird.
rehearse my solo.
7. Set yourself three S.M.A.R.T. targets for next week’s lesson.
Specific: work on breathing when singing. Measurable: I want to improve on my breathing when i’m singing and making sure i have enough breath whilst i’m singing. Attainable: It will be achievable if i keep on doing the breathing exercises that we have been doing in lesson and practicing taking my breaths when singing. Relevant: It is relevant for when i’m singing so i have enough breath and i can know how much breath i need for certain things. Timely: i would like to see my breathing improve by next week.
Specific: performance when singing. Measurable: I want to improve on my performance when singing so i look more interesting to watch and not just stood or sat there singing. Attainable: this will be achievable if i work on my character and performance when singing and in rehearsals and fully devoting myself to the character and performance. Relevant: It’s relevant for my performance and showing my understanding of the song. Timely: Again i’d like to see this improve for the next lesson.
Specific: confidence in hitting notes. Measurable:I need to make sure that i am confident when hitting the notes and not letting my nerves get the better of me. Attainable: I think it is achievable if i get over my nerves and just hit the notes without becoming too worked up. Relevant:This is relevant for when i’m singing making myself more reliable and give myself more chances at doing things when it comes to solo stuff in ensembles. Timely: I’m hoping this improves in the next couple of weeks.
