A/N: I don’t know where this one came from, but I wrote it in a night while thinking of another piece and here we are. Enjoy!
SingleDad!Ushijima whose daughter, Aiko, always has lopsided pigtails no matter how many times he redoes them. Who also has a crooked teddy bear patch sewn on her preschool smock because he handsewed it on after a 12-hour flight. The same little girl that always has a homemade bento with sweet little notes, sometimes poorly drawn doodles of her favorite animals. And is dropped off and picked up daily by her papa.
SingleDad!Ushijima whose little Aiko is the true star of the Adlers’ post-game interviews in her mini #11 jersey and eagle plushie clenched tightly in her left hand. She always rushes across the court in her squeaky shoes, Uncles Shirabu and Goshiki chasing after her before proudly telling the reporter that her papa is the bestest player in the universe. She also makes sure to take her dad’s jersey to Show & Tell since she can’t bring him. (Yes, she has tried).
SingleDad!Ushijima who makes sure his little girl isn’t missing out on anything just because she doesn’t have a mother. He constantly looks up new recipes to try so Aiko doesn’t have to eat the same basic meals over and over. He’s always making sure he’s home as much as he can be, often opting to fly home from away games directly after rather than waiting until the following morning like the rest of the team. Going as far as looking into retiring early so he can be home with her permanently.
SingleDad!Ushijima who still isn’t entirely over his late wife who passed away two years ago. Whose mother constantly reminds him of all her friends and their single daughters; reminding him that she expects this match to benefit their family. She makes sure to bring it up every time he and Aiko go over for their weekly dinner, never bothering to wait until the little girl is out of ear shot. And never failing to not so subtly remark to Ushijima that he’ll never be Aiko’s mother.
SingleDad!Ushijima who is more exhausted than usual, the stress from his mother finally weighing him down, causing him to cave on the various blind dates she’s already set up. Aiko notices that he doesn’t smile like he used to, that he falls asleep folding laundry and she hates seeing him like that. The final straw for Aiko comes when Ushijima tells her that her grandmother will pick her up after school, causing her to pout the entire car ride.
SingleDad!Ushijima whose sweet little girl is watching him a lot more closely than he realizes that she is. She watches her papa walk over to you, her teacher, and after a few moments he breaks into a smile. Her eyes widened, a smile breaking across her own face before running over, crashing into his legs, practically yelling. ‘Papa smiled at you! Will you marry him?’ A very embarrassed Ushijima tries to explain, but you cut him off, nervously fidgeting with your hands. ‘How about a coffee first?’
