I’ve been working on a new single piece fly construction method. I’m not sure if it is correct but it works pretty well for me! Here is how to do it: 1: Press SA on fly guard back (1cm) and press in half (pic 1) 2: Button hole the fly facing. 3: You want the SA in the front rise to be like this (pic 2) 4: Press the SA back on the left rise and stitch the opening (pic 3 & 4) 5: Topstitch the right rise (opening) to one layer of the fly guard with 5mm SA 5mm from the fold line on the guard (pic 5) 6: Stitch down the selvedge to close the fly guard/facing (pic 6) 8: Press the opening flat & top stitch the fly guard into place (pic 7) 9: Stitch the fly facing down. Do this in one smooth run from top to bottom & back up (pic 8) 10: Top stitch the SA’s of the rise together to stabilise them (pic 9) 11: Fold the rise into position & top stitch (pic 10) 12: Bar tack It’s quite hard to explain through pictures and text alone so I’ll try to do a video at some point.
