Macabre - Sinister Slaughter

I hadn't even heard of this album until today, but decided to give it a shot because I thought the album cover was a cool parody of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart Club. It took me a few songs to really look close enough to see that the people in the back behind the band were all Serial Killers. Now, I really dislike true crime stuff for the most part, it really isn't for me. It just feels super embarrassing and fetishizing to turn real life tragedy into like these goofy songs. I can respect the fascination with the Macabre, pun intended. I have that same fascination with torture and the occult, with gore and all things fucked and disgusting and rotting. But you know these are real stories about real people. There's a moment where they refer to Dahmer's victims as "Queers." and not in a cool modern reclaiming way. It just really didn't work for me. The jokes the aesthetic. The whole project. I think a lot of the instrumentation is super good, they clearly can play their instruments well. The vocals are really well performed, and I think the vocalists has a really creative method for screaming, but overall its all in service of an album that I find sort of embarrassing. A mixture of dead baby-esc jokes, and not taking real tragedy seriously. Probably just not for me.
