people REALLY don’t think yoi is the epitome of bait? you could replace it with 23 minutes of the “this is bait” meme for 12 weeks. (then again i have mostly avoided the fandom)

i wouldn’t call it straight up fujobait so much as i’d call it trashy bl. bait implies that it’s hooking the viewer in with something it potentially won’t deliver on. it did deliver for the fujos, for the most part. i say “for the most part” cause the show had a weird habit of ignoring or dismissing romantic developments after they’d happened, such as the assumed-kiss. my theory as to why that is is due to yoi deceptively marketing itself as a gen sports anime sans bl label. they wanted the non fujoshi viewers to keep watching. 

it’s kinda like how Fujobait Dumpster Fire Project K threw in the awful jarring titty fanservice for the 4 heterosexual male viewers they felt they needed to appeal to. only instead of male gaze fanservice in yoi, they opted to allow the viewer to write off Certain Events as victor bein wacky! xD silly victor, yuuri said those rings are just good luck charms! this, meanwhile, didn’t negatively affect the viewers who were aware of the creators’ intentions for victor/yuuri to be a legit thing. those people still got what they want, even if the show allowed for alternate interpretation.
