I think Rose had no issues turning into Steven because she knew Pearl would serve him the same way she served her.

And I use the word served intentionally here - while she broke many habits the environment she was in instilled in her, Rose still had subconscious discrimination towards Pearl and you can see it in her actions towards her.

The lack of awareness towards her feelings, disregarding her opinions, uplifting the other gems in ways she never gave her. She was her own Pearl but she was still a Pearl in Rose’s eyes. Her function was that to serve and the war worsened that mindset the both of them already had of Pearls. Rose knew that Pearl would continue her function after she stopped existing and Steven was created

Naruto has a multitude of characters where their writing is heavily based in queerness and queer experiences. From the devotion two characters have for one another to a point where they would trust each other with their lives, to feeling like the other one is the only person who truly to their core understands them and accepts them for who they are despite their flaws and issues they’ve done in the past.

Naruto as a series is so queer in its writing that the writer - whether intentional or not - made the main two characters always run after each other even if one of them fell into darkness, saying he’d shoulder the pain he’s holding just so he can be near him and you’re saying you think… Obito is gay?? The guy who literally lost his mind over a girl??

Edit: I’m talking about canon btw. Hc if you’d like I’ll always support that, but he’s not canonically gay or bi. His character is rooted in his love for a girl and the only reason he saved kk was to have time alone w Rin because he didn’t want him interfering. He’s in love w Rin and only Rin in canon🙇‍♂️

Edit: seems like people misunderstood what I meant when I posted this. In the context of what I’m talking about (Naruto), the point the writer is conveying is incoherent and badly flawed by the portrayal of the villains.

Kishimoto wants to convey to us that you have good in you despite the “darkness”. The issue arises when he uses characters that - by his own series morals - are morally in the wrong. He himself set up a system where someone is deserving of redemption. So yes the idea of “deserving” makes perfect sense for the story I’m talking about

While I get the sentiment of not trusting haters, I can’t trust splinter fans who absolutely adore him.

Yeah we can acknowledge he was a young adult who ended up in a very obscure and difficult situation, we can also acknowledge that doesn’t excuse his neglect and unavailability with his own children.

“Oh but splinter went through this!” or “splinter had to deal with that!” cool, I don’t give a crap I wouldn’t have left children - mutated turtles or otherwise - trying to figure out who they are, how to live, if they’re even worthy of love or if they even belong alone, but hey that’s just me!
