A church dating to the 6th century stands above the 4th century tunnels of the Catacomba di San Giovanni in Siracusa, Sicily, Italy. The burial niches inside the underground catacombs have been tooted over the centuries and photography is prohibited.
Time changes everything except something within us which is always surprised by change.

went to the Greek theatre in Siracusa to watch a modern adaptation of The Iliad (I didn’t know it was gonna be modern until the day itself 😔) and it was horrendous. Horrible audio. The characters were all the same (clothing-wise and acting-wise). Felt like they had no personality, their acting was pretty disappointing since many of them stumbled and ate their words. It was set in a prison??? Which doesn’t make a lot of sense imo for The Iliad. And like Achilles was in a cell refusing to fight the majority of the play but then Patroclus dies and then he fights but he survives? He doesn’t survive originally man. You could barely understand who was speaking.
The only two things I liked was some of the choreography and I kind of liked the relationship between Patroclus and Achilles in it.
But honestly, uh I wouldn’t do it again.
I saw a modern adaptation (yes, nowadays they’re all modern to attract ‘younger generations’, but like if someone doesn’t like classics I don’t think they’d watch a modern adaptation either??? Also you really had to understand and remember the story of the Iliad to follow the play yesterday 😔 Which isn’t good if it was trying to attract new people… how are they supposed to get into something they barely understood, if that makes sense???) of The Odyssey two years ago, and it was nice! Odysseus was lost (or stuck I don’t remember much) in an airport. But like an airport makes sense. Also I expected the play I saw yesterday to be a musical like the Odyssey one but it wasn’t
:(
LOADS of people (well like 50 out like 4,000 people) left during the play (many were elderly people). I desperately wanted to leave too but idk it felt disrespectful so I stayed. Besides I had a great view of the sky.
At first I thought I was confused because of my Italian level (I’m a basically fluent speaker—though I’m better at English due to being born and growing up in Ireland having only my mother and father to speak Italian with regularly), but even other people were confused.
But alas, at least I got some fresh air for two hours.
