Roman White Glass Hexagonal Flask (c. 1st Century A.D.) This Roman flask was crafted from opaque white glass. While common Roman glass was translucent, opaque white glass was engineered to resemble cameo stone.

Craftsmen achieved this solid effect by adding antimony minerals to the molten batch. This created microscopic crystals that scattered light, blocking transmission. The glass was blown into a three-part mold to form six distinct panels. Each side features relief representations of sacred vessels, including a jug, a hydria, and a kantharos cup, framed by vertical columns. Loc. Private Collection.
