Sisterella is a predominantly Black retelling of the Cinderella story set in 1912 New York City. It toured the U.S., Europe, and Australia between 1996-1998, featured a variety of Michael Jackson’s music and dance styles, and showcased lots of visual spectacle. Despite being successful and receiving 8 out of 12 NAACP award nominations, it did gain the lasting fame due to the false child abuse allegations against Michael at the time. Fortunately, the full recording is on YouTube for you to enjoy!

FUN FACT: My late Grandmother, Peggi Blu, played the role of evil stepmother Dahlia! I love and miss you Grandma Blu! 💙🕊️

Dahlia, played by my late grandmother Peggi Blu, is the wicked stepmother in Michael Jackson's musical, Sisterella. She's a vocal powerhouse, the queen diva of the show, and arch nemesis of Ella. My Grandma Blu played the mess out of this role and it lives in my head rent free. She also had the honor of taking the final bow of the show, ahead of even the title character, Ella. I love and miss you Grandma Blu! 💙🕊️

Ella, played by Della Miles, is the title character of Michael Jackson's musical, Sisterella. She’s elegant, humble, and kind, but you better not let the smooth taste fool you! Her journey as she grows into her womanhood and overcomes against her wicked stepfamily is an absolute joy to watch. Ms. Miles, if you happen to see this, I hope you know I’m still captivated by your performance in this show! 💖
