The erotic has often been misnamed by men and used against women. It has been made into the confused, the trivial, the psychotic, the plasticized sensation. For this reason, we have often turned away from the exploration and consideration of the erotic as a source of power and information, confusing it with its opposite, the pornographic. But pornography is a direct denial of the power of the erotic, for it represents the suppression of true feeling. Pornography emphasizes sensation without feeling. The erotic is a measure between the beginnings of our sense of self and the chaos of our strongest feelings. It is an internal sense of satisfaction to which, once we have experienced it, we know we can aspire.- Audre Lorde #sisteroutsider #audrelorde #blackfeminist #QWOC https://www.instagram.com/p/BoJOenllAtE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=sjwpcuj9fftb
15 Sister Outsider Artist Relief grants have been awarded. How wonderful!! 🎉🌟🖤
For me Black mothering and Black creating are political & sacred projects. My goal was to honor and center this within me and others. Most especially at this difficult time.
I started with enough money for 5!!
I’m thrilled and inspired, look where we are!!
Thank you so much for the contributions, shares and support!! Feel free to kept it going. Wishing you safety and love. 🙏🏿🖤
The quote on a tote I acquired at some literary conference: “Your silence will not protect you.” The full passage in #SisterOutsider: “I was going to die, if not sooner than later, whether or not I had ever spoken myself. My silences had not protected me. Your silence will not protect you. But for every real word spoken, for every attempt I had made to speak those truths for which I am still seeking, I had made contact with other women while we examined the words to fit a world in which we all believed, bridging our differences. And it was the concern and caring of all these women which gave me the strength and enabled me to scrutinize the essentials of my living. “What are the words you do not yet have? What do you need to say? What are the tyrannies you swallow day by day and attempt to make your own, until you will sicken and die of them, still in silence?” -#AudreLorde 📚 #amreading #BlackLivesMatter #antiracistbooks #books #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CCSK0Uipkq6/?igshid=bf28t90dekgg
"Black people are not some standardly digestible quantity. In order to work together we do not have to become a mix of indistinguishable particles resembling a vat of homogenized chocolate milk." ~ There's a @diverseclassics zoom discussion on Sister Outsider taking place tomorrow fyi. ~ #sisteroutsider #audrelorde #diverseclassics #chocolatemilk #foodinliterature https://www.instagram.com/p/CCEOW3gIcjd/?igshid=n72c36bq0g5o
